As a Manufacturing Engineering Summer Intern, you will be an integral part of our lean transformation initiatives, supporting high-impact projects that improve operational efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance productivity across our manufacturing operations. You’ll gain meaningful, hands-on experience while working on projects that directly support our mission to protect lives.
This is a full-time summer internship designed to challenge you, develop your skills, and give you exposure to a dynamic manufacturing environment.
What You’ll Do
- Participate in Kaizen events such as Value Stream Mapping (VSM), 5S rollouts, and Standard Work Documentation.
- Support improvements to key manufacturing areas, including:
- Next-generation Paint Line
- Metal Fabrication Cell optimization
- Driving single-piece flow for Printed Circuit Board (PCB) lines
- Assist with Quality Management System (QMS) development, including process improvements and documentation to prepare for ISO certification.
- Build training materials and audit tools to support sustainable lean practices.
- Complete a full value stream analysis and present improvement recommendations.
- Deliver a final capstone presentation summarizing your contributions, learnings, and impact at the end of the summer.
What You Bring
Experience That Drives Success
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering (preferred).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to think critically.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- A genuine interest in lean manufacturing, process improvement, and hands-on engineering work.
- Previous manufacturing or co-op experience is a plus, but not required.
- Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively in team settings.
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on quality and safety.
- Curiosity and willingness to experiment and explore new ideas.
- Proactive time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to adapt to change and embrace challenges with a growth mindset.
