Pottawattamie County is accepting applications for a Custodian, who performs manual work cleaning county offices and building facilities; collects and removes trash; cleans and replenishes restrooms and kitchen areas; uses cleaning machines and chemicals; transports, distributes, and inventories custodial supplies; documents completed work; and performs related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the general direction of the Building & Grounds Director.
Cleans, dusts, and wipes down surfaces; sweeps, vacuums, and mops floors, rugs, and assigned areas in county buildings; waxes floors and cleans carpet as assigned.
Cleans and sanitizes restrooms, toilets, sinks, and mirrors; cleans assigned kitchen sinks and surfaces; checks and replenishes toilet paper and paper towels in restrooms, kitchens, and office areas throughout the workday.
Transports, distributes, and organizes paper products and other custodial supplies in assigned county facilities; uses cleaning machines and equipment as needed; replaces broken materials within the assigned scope of work.
Maintains janitorial supply inventory; checks stock levels, records supplies received and distributed, organizes storage areas, and notifies the supervisor when supplies need to be reordered.
Collects and removes trash from assigned offices, restrooms, public areas, court security areas, the 911 center, and maintenance shop; revisits assigned areas as needed during the workday.
Monitors and refills chemical in building system; replaces and repairs broken chemical dilution valves.
Maintains daily custodial work logs documenting completed tasks, locations, and service times.
Reports spills, unsanitary conditions, damaged equipment, supply shortages, and other conditions requiring attention to the supervisor; follows assigned safety procedures and uses required protective equipment.
Knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies, and equipment and ability to use them economically and efficiently; ability to understand oral and written directions; ability to read, write, and maintain daily work records; physical ability to perform assigned custodial work; ability to organize tasks and work independently; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
High school diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience; knowledge of cleaning machines and tools and proper sanitation procedures.
Salary : $21 - $25
