What are the responsibilities and job description for the Faculty Position - Lower School Classroom Teacher (Proactive Search) position at POTOMAC SCHOOL?

The Lower School Classroom Teacher (Grades K-3) is a full time position reporting to the Head of the Lower School. The classroom teacher is responsible for guiding the social, emotional and academic growth of a class of students. The ability to appreciate and work effectively across individual and cultural differences is essential.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate, motivate and understand the academic and emotional needs of six to nine year old children
- Plan and implement lessons in language arts, mathematics, and social studies that facilitate active learning and follow Potomac’s curricular guidelines and requirements
- Monitor student progress using a range of formal and informal assessment tools, and differentiate instruction to meet the needs of a range of learners
- Create and manage a positive classroom environment that inspires student learning
- Work collaboratively with other teachers, parents, support staff, and members of the community
- Communicate effectively with parents to discuss student progress and areas for growth
- Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and training workshops
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field
- Two or more years of teaching experience at the primary level
- Ability to support Potomac’s mission to foster each child’s intellectual development, love of learning and strength of character
- A collaborative and engaging educator with outstanding communication and organizational skills.
