Provide leadership for all maintenance employees of the assigned mill. Oversee installation, repair and maintenance of plant machinery and equipment and coordination of outside contractors, with primary focus on safe and continuous operation of all equipment and facilities. Lead the TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) process at the site.

The salary range for this position is $99,825 – $166,375.

The compensation range represents the low and high end of the base compensation range for this position. Actual compensation will vary based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance.

This position is bonus eligible, with a target value of 15% of salary.

Key Activities/Tasks

Operational

  • Manage the work assignments of all mechanical and electrical personnel.
  • Manage the activities of assigned personnel to ensure maintenance excellence is achieved and maintained so that all equipment is operating at cost-effective, peak performance.
  • Plan effective use of available resources using the six-step work process and assist in the development of process, design, and operational improvements to meet objectives of the mill.
  • Forecast, develop, and manage the maintenance budget.

Capital Projects

  • Participate in the planning and implementation of all capital projects in the mill.
  • Oversee installation, repair and maintenance of plant machinery and equipment and coordination of outside contractors, with primary focus on safe and continuous operation of all equipment and facilities.
  • Review vendor quotes with Purchasing Manager and assure all spare parts are purchased with new equipment. Follow-up with equipment manufacturers for performance guarantees.

Safety & Environmental

  • Provide information and training on OSHA rules and regulations and additional site procedures ensuring that all safety methods are in place, fully implemented, and training documented to guarantee a safe, clean, and healthy work environment for all employees and contractors.
  • Maintain a safe facility and a work climate conducive to safe working practices. Support the behavioral safety process.
  • Ensure maintenance activities are in compliance with environmental regulations and other state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Ensure that safety requirements are met in the planning and implementation process for capital projects.

Leadership

  • Hire, supervise, and lead the development of both hourly and salaried employees through training, coaching, and performance review feedback on all equipment and processes in area of responsibility. Oversee the maintenance trainee/advancement program or apprenticeship program, as applicable.
  • Manage the activities of all maintenance personnel to ensure that plant critical objectives are achieved using acceptable practices.
  • Provide an atmosphere that leads to continual improvement in safety, quality, and productivity.

TPM Process

  • Lead the predictive and preventative maintenance efforts of the mill.
  • Assist and participate in daily and weekly meetings with maintenance and operations to achieve maximum capabilities of the mill.
  • Analyze production operations concerns with equipment issues.
  • Monitor team’s performance; schedule PM audit on each machine center and assure that the root cause board and process flow chart are being used.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma with additional technical maintenance courses required. Associate or bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, maintenance, electrical or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of related maintenance experience with at least three (3) years of leadership experience within a mill, business unit or major project.
  • Advanced proficiency in computerized maintenance management systems (MAS preferred).
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and AutoCAD.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to motivate others.
  • Ability to coordinate, prioritize and control multiple tasks and projects.
  • Demonstrated expertise with solving problems related to people, process, and equipment is essential, as is the ability to lead change and compete at world-class levels. Demonstrated ability to manage/implement large scale projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead in a non-union high-performance team environment.

Working Conditions And Essential Physical Functions

  • Office and industrial sawmill environment.
  • Temperature extremes, noisy, dusty.
  • Occasional travel required.
  • Climbing of stairs and catwalks at elevated levels.
  • Occasional heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs.).
  • Working in confined spaces.
  • Some fatigue due to computer use
