Job Description
Job Summary:
The Maintenance Apprentice supports the maintenance team in an aluminum extrusion manufacturing facility by assisting with routine maintenance, repairs, and upkeep of production equipment and plant facilities. This entry-level role provides hands-on training in industrial maintenance, including mechanical systems, basic electrical components, hydraulics, pneumatics, and general facility maintenance, under the direction of experienced maintenance technicians.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Assists with inspecting extrusion presses, conveyors, saws, cooling systems, and auxiliary equipment to identify maintenance or repair needs.
- Supports troubleshooting of mechanical and basic electrical issues under supervision.
- Learns to follow equipment manuals, lockout/tagout procedures, and maintenance schedules.
- Assists with routine preventative maintenance on production machinery and plant systems.
- Helps perform general facility repairs such as patching drywall, painting, lighting replacement, and door or fixture repair.
- Assists with cleaning, lubrication, and organization of maintenance work areas.
- Gathers tools, parts, and materials required for maintenance tasks.
- Follows all plant safety policies, including PPE requirements and safe work practices.
- Works collaboratively with production teams to minimize downtime.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to follow instructions from maintenance supervisors and senior technicians.
- Interest in industrial or manufacturing maintenance, particularly within a metal or aluminum environment.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Ability to safely use hand tools and power tools with training.
- Strong attention to safety and detail.
- Good organizational and time management skills.
- Reliable attendance and a strong work ethic.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Technical coursework, trade school, or prior manufacturing experience preferred but not required.
- On-the-job training provided, with opportunities to advance into a Maintenance Technician role.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of standing and walking on the plant floor.
- Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and platforms; bend, stoop, and work in confined spaces.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with heat, noise, and moving machinery.
