Industrial Designer

The Industrial Designer will be responsible for leading the design process from concept to completion. This includes developing product designs that are based on internally collected inspiration, as well as translating designs submitted by outside collaborators and working through feedback and revisions. A successful candidate will be mechanically inclined, though no specific experience is required.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• Responsible for conceptualizing new product designs keeping in line with the RBW Design Language through ideation sketching, mockups, 3D CAD, and presentation. Minimal prototyping, when needed.
• Facilitate weekly design meetings to present progress and discuss revisions. Incorporate feedback in a timely manner to be shared prior to subsequent design reviews. 
• Maintain a structured system of design files for ease of reference and team access. 
• Collect and organize inspiration to help fuel and guide product development.
• Make strategic recommendations for product function and feature specifications that elevate the overall project.
• Learn and utilize the RBW Design Language to analyze each concept and help define color, materials, and finishes. Collaborate with the creative team to drive brand consistency across all products.
• Collaborate cross-departmentally with the Sales & Marketing Team to incorporate feedback around key product features and with Engineering to ensure feasibility.
• Support prototype reviews to ensure design execution is in line with original intent.
• Participate in consumer research activities to collect market insights to influence product design development.
• Stay up to date wit current industry trends and happenings. Activities include online competitive research as well as attending industry related trade shows.
• Working in tandem with the Design Manager, guide collaborator design projects from concept to completion ensuring the designs align with RBW design and brand languages. 
• Research new materials keeping RBW sustainability goals & initiatives in mind. Work with the procurement team to identify and vet new material vendors as needed.
• Solve product related design and styling problems in a creative, timely, and efficient way.

Qualifications

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

• 3 - 5 years of consumer product and/or lighting design experience. 
• Experience in translating user needs and research insights into great product concepts
• Ability to effectively communicate ideas in visual, written, and verbal form
• Advanced sketching and rendering skills
• Proficiency with 3D modeling computer systems, and willingness to learn new platforms
• Knowledge of KeyShot, Adobe Photoshop
• Understanding of electrical requirements - decorative lighting is a strong asset.
• Understanding of interior design, construction and engineering is a plus
