Job Opening: General Manager at PostBoy
We are excited to invite a passionate and experienced General Manager to join our team at PostBoy, set to be a premier culinary destination in New Buffalo, MI. Operating under the creative vision of Chef James Galbraith and alongside co-owner Ben Holland, you will play a critical role in launching and guiding PostBoy to success.
About Chef James Galbraith: Chef James Galbraith, the creative mind behind PostBoy, is also highly regarded for his work at Houndstooth and Anemel—two of the area's most acclaimed dining establishments. His expertise and innovative approach to cuisine will continue to guide the direction at PostBoy, promising a fun and unique dining experience.
Ideal Candidate:
- Brings at least 3 years of managerial experience, ideally in a high-volume, large team setting.
- Exhibits strong leadership skills, dynamic presence on the floor, meticulous attention to detail, and a passion for hospitality.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintains a positive, friendly disposition and a neat, clean, and professional image
- Works with the Chef/owners in setting the direction of the business in day-to-day operations as well as developing and executing a plan to drive sales, manage costs, and grow the business
- Manages FOH schedule; ensures the FOH is properly staffed and handles any staffing issues
- Handles all FOH staff responsibilities - training and development, employee relations, disciplinary action, documentation, terminations, etc.
- Works directly with Chef to promote a strong and unified leadership dynamic—breaking barriers of separation between FOH and BOH
- Manages and reviews BOH payroll edits via Toast software and ensures all is correct by the payroll processing time
- Responsible for conducting bi-weekly meetings with all FOH managers to update them on financials, service, new procedures, and improvements
- Responsible for holding pre-shift meetings within every service and every department OR have another manager holding these in your absence
- Fluent in all aspects of the budget and P&L to educate all managers on how to meet and exceed all goals set forth by our Partners
- Works with the entire leadership team to drive the success of their restaurant (promptly and fully informs management team of concerning problems or unusual matters of significance)
- Shares responsibility with Chef/Owners on all repairs and maintenance of the restaurant by managing handymen
- Develop and implement all SOPs, including an employee handbook
- Manages the relationship with the Merchandise team and any onsite team members operating it
- Plans community engagement events and seasonal changes to the restaurant staff, decor, and menu
- Is open to feedback and works in partnership with the owners to make PostBoy the most fun place to visit and work in the area
- Develop a cohesive team that embraces the restaurant’s fun, unpretentious culture while striving for culinary excellence.
- Build and maintain strong community relations, establishing PostBoy as a beloved local dining spot.
Location:
- New Buffalo, MI (relocation required to the area for non-local candidates).
Compensation:
- $80,000 to $110,000 base salary, plus profit sharing.
- Comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, and vision insurance; paid time off; commuter benefits; dining discounts; and potential bonuses.
Qualifications:
- Extensive knowledge in managing food and beverage operations, with a preference for New American cuisine.
- Proficient with restaurant management software (OpenTable, Toast, Restaurant 365).
- Food Handler’s Certification from the Department of Health.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
- Strong organizational skills and capacity to manage stress effectively.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to handle and move equipment up to 50 pounds.
- Capability to stand for extended periods during shifts.
