What are the responsibilities and job description for the Press Operator position at Postal Center International?
The Press Operator is responsible for the set-up, operation, and cleanup of flexible printing press producing a product which meets customer needs while maintaining a clean and safe working environment.
Duties / Responsibilities:
- Follows daily press schedule
- Ensures all required paperwork is complete and accurate
- Efficiently plans out setups and changeovers
- Ensures all components for producing product are at press so job is completely ready to produce from setup to cleanup
- Ensures all setup components are checked for durability over the long run (cylinders locked down, plates tuned in, proper ink per job specs).
- Conscious of waste through operation (time & material)
- Sets up stock used as needed when available to prevent excessive waste
- Ensures colors and registration are within tolerance per specifications
- Ensures finished jobs are promptly moved to the next operation with good and bad product clearly marked
- Ensures ink removed from shafts of doctor roll and anilox, anilox rolls cleaned to prevent plugging of cells, all ink cleaned from press and surrounding area, when possible, base rolls cleaned after use with no tape or debris remaining, and gears cleaned as needed
- Follows ISO SOP s as trained
• Ability to read and understand written instructions and carry out tasks to meet instructions.
• Read and understand graphs, charts, and spreadsheets.
• Demonstrate proficiency in the use of ePace Data Collection and displays consistency and accuracy in meeting Data Collection requirements specified by the Company.
• Possess and demonstrate the ability to cooperate with co-workers and supervisors, be quality conscious, detail-oriented, reliable and a team player.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Requires the ability to read and interpret documents such as Job Work Orders, Safety rules, operating SOP’s and policy manual/s.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in verbal, written, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standard or everyday situations.

Education and Experience:
• High School diploma or GED preferred.
• Three to Five years of digital print experience and progressively increasing responsibility.
• Related experience and/or training may be substituted.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
• The employee is required to stand or sit depending on task throughout the shift. Often required to be standing for an entire shift.
• The employee is often required to move to different areas, they use hands to repeatedly grasp, handle, or feel. Reach with hands and arms.
• Pull and or push stacks of products.
• Repeatedly bend over and pick up the product.
• Must be able to lift and/or move 40 lbs. Ability to lift 10-40 lbs. on a frequent basis.
• Must be able to work overtime as required.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals, and the risk of electrical shock.
