Field Service Technician

About the Role
The Field Service Technician travels to customer sites to keep farm equipment running through diagnostics, repair, and preventative maintenance. You will work on feeder wagons, grain carts, manure spreaders, feed trucks and similar equipment. The role also includes some seasonal scale work on that same equipment. Scale work will include repairing or rebuilding scale components, replacing parts as needed and assisting with basic calibration, setup, diagnostics and system checks.
Key Responsibilities
- The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Travel to customer locations in a service truck to diagnose and repair equipment.
- Perform mechanical, hydraulic, and basic electrical diagnostics.
- Complete preventative maintenance such as inspections, lubrication, adjustments, and replacement of wear parts.
- Repair, rebuild, or replace parts and scale components including load cells, indicators, wiring, junction boxes, and mounting hardware.
- Assist with basic scale calibration, configuration, and diagnostics, as well as verifying the system is working correctly.
- Keep clear records of work performed, parts used, hours, and follow-ups.
- Communicate findings, options, timelines, and maintenance recommendations to customers in plain language.
- Maintain an organized service truck, tools, and parts.
- Follow all safety rules on customer sites and in the yard.
- Coordinate with the service manager and shop team on scheduling, parts, and complex repairs.
Qualifications
- Strong mechanical aptitude. Experience with agricultural, construction, or heavy equipment is preferred.
- Able to perform diagnostics and preventative maintenance on mechanical, hydraulic, and basic electrical systems.
- Willing to learn and understand scale systems, including load cells, indicators, and wiring.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. A CDL is a plus but not required.
- Prior experience as a service technician or mechanic is helpful. Scale experience is a plus but not required. Training is available for the right candidate.
- Bilingual, especially English and Spanish, is a plus but not required.
- Comfortable working outdoors in different weather and lifting and handling parts and tools as needed.
- Strong communication and customer service skills. Able to work independently in the field.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with feeder wagons, grain carts, manure spreaders, or feed trucks.
- Familiarity with scale components and basic electrical troubleshooting.
- Welding, fabrication, and hydraulic system experience.
- Able to read and understand manuals, diagrams, and schematics.
- Basic computer skills for work orders, service notes, and parts lookup.
Work Environment & Schedule
- Mostly field based, working from a company service truck.
- Regular travel to customer locations in the region.
- Occasional shop work when not on service calls, including rebuilds, installs, or prep work.
- Rotational on call nights & weekends with other shop technicians (typically every four weeks)
