What are the responsibilities and job description for the Day Porter position at Positive Education Program?
Supports a clean and safe environment for students with autism and related developmental disabilities. Performs essential custodial duties, including restroom monitoring, supply restocking, trash and recycling removal, cleaning and disinfecting throughout the building.
Duties and responsibilities
- Maintain a high standard of cleanliness in classrooms, restrooms, sensory spaces, offices, and common areas
- Conduct routine monitoring and timely cleaning of high-use areas
- Respond promptly to spills, accidents, and biohazard situations using approved protocols
- Restock hygiene and sanitation supplies
- Follow all health, safety, confidentiality, and compliance requirements
- Interact with students and staff in a calm, respectful, and professional manner
- Collaborate with Facilities Maintenance Specialist to support daily operations
- Observe and report safety, maintenance, or environmental concerns to supervisor
Expectations, Skills and Abilities - Participate (and pass requirements where applicable) in all required trainings,
including but not limited to; First Aid, CPR, Blood Borne Pathogens, and Standards of Practice. - Knowledge of and adherence to PEP Policies and Procedures.
- Ability to prioritize requests for assistance. Respond quickly and effectively to high priority situations.
- Punctual with consistent attendance practices. Good time management.
- Calm demeanor and emotional regulation.
- Respect for student dignity, privacy, and safety.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to balance, bend, climb, crouch, kneel, reach, push, stoop, stand and sit
- Ability to lift, push and pull a minimum of 40 lbs.
- Ability to use heavy equipment (e.g., power scrubbers) if needed.
- Ability to use a computer and keyboard (hand-eye coordination and repetitive movements related to keyboarding)

Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Prior custodial or facilities experience required; experience in clinical, healthcare, or special education settings preferred
- Familiarity with infection control practices and use of cleaning chemicals and equipment
- Basic computer proficiency, including the ability to use email and track work orders
- Ability to follow structured routines and adhere to protocols
- Demonstrated reliability, discretion, and professionalism
- Self-starter. Comfortable working autonomously.
