Position Music is an independent record label and music publisher based in Burbank, California, with an additional office in Nashville, Tennessee. Established in 1999 and still led by Founder & CEO Tyler Bacon, Position Music is a full-service music company with a passionate team of 50 professionals dedicated to supporting artists, songwriters, and the creative community.
We are seeking a motivated Associate to join our investments team. This is a junior role supporting the financial evaluation, structuring, and monitoring of catalog acquisitions, publishing deals, and strategic investments across our recorded music and music publishing businesses. The ideal candidate brings 1–3 years of experience in investment banking, finance, or a related analytical role, paired with a genuine passion for music and the industry that surrounds it. Candidates based in the Los Angeles area or willing to relocate are preferred.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Deal Analysis & Modeling: Build and maintain financial models for frontline publishing and recordings deals and catalog acquisitions, including DCF, IRR, and payback analyses.
- Due Diligence: Support the due diligence process for inbound opportunities which include synthesizing financial data, streaming metrics, royalty histories, and market comps into clear investment memos.
- Deal Memos & Presentations: Prepare presentation materials and investment summaries for deal committee reviews, tracking key assumptions, deal terms, and financial projections.
- Pipeline Management: Maintain and improve the deal pipeline tracker, ensuring data integrity, consistent formatting, and timely updates across all active opportunities.
- Portfolio Monitoring: Monitor the performance of closed investments against underwriting assumptions; flag material variances and contribute to post-investment reviews.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with the executive team, A&R, and business affairs to support deal execution and cross-functional coordination.
- Process Improvement: Leverage AI and automation tools to improve the speed and accuracy of modeling, data gathering, and reporting workflows.
Qualifications & Experience:
- 1–3 years of experience in investment banking, corporate finance, private equity, music/media M&A, or a comparable analytical role.
- Demonstrated ability to build financial models from scratch (e.g., DCF, IRR, payback period).
- Strong command of Excel.
- Exceptional attention to detail and intellectual rigor - you catch what others miss.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable presenting to senior stakeholders.
- Ability to juggle multiple live deals in a fast-paced, lean team environment.
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related quantitative field.
- Knowledge of music royalties, rights structures, and monetization channels is a strong plus.
- Experience with SQL, Power BI, Tableau, or similar data tools is a plus.
- Experience using AI and automation tools to support modeling and analysis is a plus.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Salary Range: $75,000 – $110,000 (commensurate with experience), plus discretionary year-end bonus

Salary : $75,000 - $110,000
