Anticipated Life Sciences Teacher Opening
Position Purpose: Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the Life Sciences Teacher will inspire and develop students' skills and competence in the life sciences, including biology, anatomy & physiology. The teacher will cultivate scientific literacy, critical thinking, problem-solving, and an understanding of science as it applies to real-world challenges, preparing students for post-secondary education and careers in health sciences and related fields.
Essential Functions
- Teach biology (life sciences), anatomy & physiology, and related science courses, emphasizing human body structure and function as well as comparative anatomy of mammals in alignment with district curriculum.
- Deliver a rigorous, student-centered curriculum that promotes scientific literacy, critical thinking, and creativity.
- Design and facilitate engaging laboratory experiences, including dissections (virtual and/or hands-on), simulations, experiments, and data analysis.
- Ensure compliance with all laboratory safety procedures and protocols.
- Integrate technology and multimedia to enhance learning and engagement.
- Develop and implement lesson plans that translate curriculum objectives into meaningful, sequential learning experiences.
- Instruct students in the proper use and care of scientific equipment, chemicals, and living specimens.
- Assess student learning continuously, adapting instruction to meet individual needs, including students with special needs.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, achievement, and attendance.
- Encourage parental involvement and ensure effective communication with students and parents.
- Promote a safe, respectful, and productive classroom environment.
- Collaborate with colleagues, participate in faculty meetings and committees, and contribute to school-wide initiatives.
- Select and maintain instructional resources and laboratory equipment, ensuring proper functioning and inventory control.
Additional Duties
- Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal or central office administrators.
Equipment
- Standard office equipment (computers, printers, copiers,telephones).
- Laboratory equipment and materials, maintaining compliance with safety protocols.
Travel Requirements
- Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Expertise in life sciences and familiarity with a broad range of scientific disciplines.
- Knowledge of current teaching methods, educational pedagogy, and differentiated instruction.
- Ability to design and implement laboratory and experiential learning activities.
- Proficiency in educational technology, digital learning platforms, and data management systems.
- Strong organizational, communication, and collaborative skills.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state education laws.
- Commitment to continuous professional growth and self-evaluation.

Qualifications Profile
Certification/License:
- State certification as a Life Science Teacher (or eligibility).
- Valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License or reliable transportation.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in an education discipline applicable to teaching assignments.
- Master's degree preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in a related field.
- Experience teaching Anatomy & Physiology.
- Experience with lab-based instruction and safety protocols.
- Familiarity with technology integration and digital learning platforms.
- Eligibility to teach Dual Enrollment courses through affiliated colleges/universities.
Experience:
- Successful prior teaching experience at the appropriate grade level preferred.
FLSA Status: Exempt
Pay Rate: Follow Negotiated Pay Rate (See Teacher's Agreement)
