What are the responsibilities and job description for the Math Specialist position at Portsmouth School District?
Mary C. Dondero Elementary School is looking for a Math Specialist to join our team in supporting the continued growth of students and teachers in our K-5 school. The 3-5 Math Specialist will work to support quality classroom math instruction and will also provide targeted, small-group and individual instruction for students who demonstrate a need for additional support. In this role, the Math Specialist will collaborate with teachers and other colleagues through our PLC process, discussing and analyzing data to determine individual student strengths and needs, and evaluating instructional strategies to continually improve our effectiveness.
Additional aspects of the Math Specialist role:
Assist with standardized testing, Universal Screening, and progress monitoring assessments.
Interpret mathematics assessment data to drive instruction, evaluate curriculum, and monitor progress.
Plan and provide targeted instruction to individual students and small groups to close gaps in learning.
Collaborate with teachers, specialists, and other colleagues, determining resources
Plan and implement math initiatives and communications with colleagues and families on a regular basis regarding student progress •
Collaborate with classroom teachers to align instructional interventions to classroom practice
Assist in the scheduling and assignment of students for tiered intervention
Implement targeted interventions and monitor progress towards benchmark goals
Demonstrate strong commitment to help all students succeed
Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Building Principal
Successful candidates will demonstrate:
A teaching certification and experience in elementary education, ideally with a focus on mathematics.
A strong commitment to the success of every student
Solid understanding of math curriculum and instruction, including Guided Inquiry practices, attention to the Standards of Mathematical Practice, emphasis on C-R-A, and the value of productive struggle.
Strong organizational and communication skills
The ability to differentiate instruction
