MAINTENANCE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR

 

Wage Range $22.00 per hour - $26.00 per hour

Position Summary

Ensures that bulk refuse items are disposed of from all housing developments.  Operates mechanical equipment including, but not limited to, trash truck, bucket truck, backhoe, tractor, tillers and riding lawn mowers.   While preference is full-time status, part-time would be considered.

 

Position Description

  • Routinely picks up and disposes of bulk refuse from all housing developments.
  • On occasion, performs general ground maintenance including, but not limited to mowing of property grounds, tree and shrub trimming, utilizing various mechanized power tools and heavy motorized equipment. 
  • Performs daily inspection and ensures the preventative maintenance of the bulk trash truck, bucket truck, grounds equipment and other maintenance equipment is in clean and in proper working condition to include, but not limited to: inspect tires, lights, fuel and fluid capacity levels, windshield wipers.
  • On occasion, assists with or performs a variety of maintenance tasks and general repairs, such as installation of downspouts, guttering, dryer vents, exterior bird cages, and window screens.
  • Observes and ensures all safety rules, regulations, and standards are followed.

 

Position Requirements

 

  • Possess and maintain a state issued Class B Commercial Driver’s license
  • Thorough knowledge of common methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the building trades.
  • Must be familiar with the use of maintenance equipment, hand and power tools and equipment of the     trade and ability to instruct others in their use.
  • Ability to work independently in the absence of specific instructions and under pressure and with time restraints.          
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.  
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and adherence with the Authority policies and   procedures. 
  • Ability to interact effectively, professionally and with courtesy with staff, co-workers, residents and the general public.
  • Promotes a positive image of the Authority by establishing and maintaining to the greatest extent possible a viable and positive working relationship with co-workers, local agencies and all appropriate agencies of the City with which the Authority may come into contact. 
  • Must be generally available for occasional after-hours and weekend activities. In the event of emergencies, must be accessible, by phone or other effective communication methods. .

 

Physical Requirements

 

This position requires the ability to complete all physical duties of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.

 

  • Use of hands/fingers to handle or feel – Sufficient manual dexterity to allow operation of a variety of a computer and other office equipment.
  • See – Ability to observe, identify and recognize details at close range. Must have the ability to identify and distinguish color variations.
  • Stand or Sit – Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time. 
  • Walk, move and traverse Ability to stoop, kneel, bend, stretch, crawl and climb a ladder, etc.
  • Stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl – Constantly positions self to perform the essential functions of the job duties.
  • Move, transport, position, install, remove – Frequently moves items weighing up to 50 pounds across areas for various needs.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Requires graduation from high school or equivalent.
  • 3-5 years’ experience operating heavy equipment.  
  • Prefers operation of automatic or semi-automatic collection vehicle.
  • A combination of education and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
