What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dental Assistant position at Portsmouth Dental Associates?
Do you get to the end of a shift and realize you never sat down, never ate, and can't remember the last time a doctor said thank you? Maybe you got into this work because you wanted to use your hands and be part of something, and instead you do the same three tasks every day and get criticized the moment a fourth one slips. Or maybe the hygiene team treats you like help instead of a teammate, and the doctor only speaks to you when something went wrong. If the days blur together, rushed and airless, lunch skipped more often than eaten, the clock reading well past five before you're finally out the door, that adds up to something hard to name but impossible to ignore.
Growing up on a team, the good ones were never the ones where everybody just did their own thing. The good ones had a coach who saw what you were capable of and pushed you toward it, on the field and off. That's the model at Tilman Dental Group. Days run 8 to 5, with a full hour for lunch the team actually gets to eat together. Rooms turn fast because the systems were built for it: sterilization organized, supply areas stocked so nothing runs dry mid procedure, doctor schedules built so busy never tips into chaotic. Mornings start with a huddle so everyone's on the same page, and the day closes with a joke or a story, something to send people home still smiling instead of just relieved it's over. Doctors here notice the work, and they say so out loud. None of this holds up without the people running it day to day, and that's the part worth saying plainly: the team here is the reason the systems actually work on the hardest days.
The coaching doesn't end at hiring. Monthly team meetings tackle real problems department by department. Quarterly growth days pull everyone offsite, part planning, part something purely fun. Every assistant gets a monthly one on one built around where they actually want to go, not a script. That's how several people here started in sterilization with no dental background at all and grew into the quarterback of the clinical team, running rooms, reading the doctor's next move before it's said out loud, training whoever comes in behind them. Learning isn't theoretical either. Hands are on CEREC, 3D printers, CBCT scanners, in rooms built modern enough to make the work feel like craft instead of routine.
(PTO, CE reimbursement, 401k with match, health and dental coverage, hourly pay with incentive potential, the practical stuff, handled :))
