The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering serves a diverse population of students including military veterans, community college transfers, students with prior work experience, and international students from around the world. The Department offers ABET-accredited B.S. degree programs in electrical engineering and computer engineering, as well as M.S. and Ph.D. programs. The Department has 26 faculty members, including three IEEE Fellows and ASA and ACM Fellows, with a focus on excellence in teaching. The department is guided by its strategic vision and has implemented a mentoring plan to support new faculty and promote growth and collaboration among colleagues.

Position Summary
The Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Department at Portland State University seeks outstanding candidates for a Non-Tenure Track Faculty (NTTF) Assistant Professor of Practice in Power Systems.

This teaching position focuses teaching in both undergraduate and graduate courses in a broad range of courses in electrical engineering. This 1.0 FTE 9-month teaching appointment will typically be responsible for teaching two 4-credit courses each quarter of the academic year (fall, winter, and spring). Additional responsibilities include service to the department, college, or university, capstone project supervision, curriculum and program development, and teaching laboratory directorship. The faculty member will be expected to engage with regional industry partners to strengthen power engineering career development pathways, recruit guest speakers and adjunct faculty, and inform continuous improvement of PSU’s power-track BS EE and MS ECE programs.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master of Science Degree in Electrical & Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related discipline
  • Experience teaching and/or related industry experience


Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctorate Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering or related discipline
  • Demonstrated teaching excellence
  • Experience teaching at least three courses in higher education and/or 3 years of related industry experience
  • Experience teaching graduate and undergraduate electrical and computer engineering courses

Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement
Salary is dependent on several factors, and new employees will typically start around the Q1 level to allow for later growth within the salary band. PSU has a structured process for determining starting compensation, taking into account years of related experience, applicable skills, knowledge and abilities, market parity, and internal equity.

The starting annual 9-month salary for this position will be between $85,000-$92,690 based upon the factors above, the budget of the hiring department, and approval from HR. The starting salary may be negotiable above this range, however it will be dependent upon the knowledge, experience, skills and abilities of the chosen candidate, the budget of the hiring department, and approval from HR.
