TITLE: Wayfinders Teaching Site Coordinator (After School) – Positions at Rowe and Talbot

PROGRAM OVERVIEW:

The Wayfinders program is a 21st Century CLC grant-funded initiative hosted at Gerald E. Talbot Community School and Amanda C. Rowe Elementary School. The program primarily serves academically eligible 2nd through 5th-grade students from both schools. In partnership with Maine Audubon, we are building a curriculum that engages students in STEM and nature through hands-on experiences. Beyond science, we integrate literacy, social-emotional growth, youth leadership, nutrition, outdoor recreation, and the arts to provide a well-rounded out-of-school time experience. In its initial year, our goal is to provide outstanding programming for 80 students.

The program will run Mon, Tue, Thu, and Fri from September to May. Talbot hours will be 2:10-4:10 pm and Rowe hours will be Rowe: 3:30-5:30 pm. Our goal for the 26-27 school year is to have 2 classrooms of 20 students at each school. Each school will have a team made up of 1 Teaching Site Coordinator, 1 Teacher, 1 Ed Tech, and 1 Maine Audubon Educator. 

POSITION OVERVIEW:

We are currently seeking a Teaching Site Coordinator to run our Wayfinders afterschool program during its inaugural year. There are two positions available, one based at Rowe and one based at Talbot.

** IMPORTANT: THIS IS AN INTERNAL POSITION. EXTERNAL APPLICANTS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED. **

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Teach during program times (M,T,Th,F)
  • Talbot: 2:-10-4:10pm
  • Rowe: 3:30-5:30pm.
• Available for clean up/prep/team check ins up to 30 mins after program each day. Additional hours may be worked before or after the program, or on days when programming does not occur.
• Lead engaging, hands-on lessons (in collaboration with Maine Audubon) and adapt curriculum to meet the needs of a diverse group of learners.
• Create a positive and fun classroom environment.
• Work side-by-side with other educators and community partners to ensure seamless, high-quality programming.
• Cultivate a warm, inclusive learning community by integrating restorative practices with developmentally appropriate classroom management.
• Ensure student safety and engagement during outdoor explorations and physical activities.
• Train, supervise, and support a team of educators and partners who will be running the nature- and STEM-based programming
• Implement a safe, fun, and engaging program
• Communicate with enrolled families and school staff on a regular basis
• Ensure all 21st CCLC grant requirements are met
• Establish staffing schedules and communicate effectively with staff
• Oversee student arrival/dismissal and attendance tracking
• Collect and organize data (surveys, assessments, and attendance) to measure program impact and fulfill reporting requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Ability to coach educators in delivering high-quality, hands-on curriculum
• Skilled in providing real-time behavior management support that empowers teachers and fosters a positive student environment
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage schedules and logistics
• Ability to communicate with clarity, empathy, and professionalism across all levels, including teachers, students, families, and partners
• Experience in (or a passion for) hands-on, project-based learning and STEM education
• Ability to build strong, collaborative relationships with students, colleagues, and families

CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Current Maine teacher certification required (020 or 029 preferred)
• Maine State CHRC authorization (more info) **
  • **if you already have an active Teacher certification, you do not need a separate CHRC as this clearance is tied to your Teacher certification
• Must be currently employed by PPS as a Teacher, Instructional Coach, Teaching Specialist, or Culture and Climate Coordinator

EMPLOYMENT DETAILS:

• Schedule: 20 hours per week
• Assignment: Temporary (for the 26-27 school year), with the possibility of extending into future school years
• Rate of pay: $40.00 per hour (separate from employee's existing rate of pay as teacher PPS)
