TITLE: Elementary ESOL Teacher - Reiche Community School
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Portland Public Schools seeks a skilled ESOL Teacher to join the team at Reiche Community School. ESOL Teachers in Portland Public Schools are expected to:
- Provide and support rigorous and appropriate English language instruction aligned with the WIDA English Language Proficiency & Standards and the Common Core to meet grade level expectations for MLs/DLLs, including newcomers
- Collaborate with general education teachers to enhance acquisition of English in all language domains necessary to participate and make progress in general education content classes
- Provide on-going staff development on language acquisition, acculturation, sheltered instruction, and effective practices in teaching MLs/DLLs
- Use school and student level data to inform instruction and programming supports for MLs/DLLs
- Be culturally responsive and effective communicators with students, parents and staff
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills
- Understanding of the teaching/learning process for multilingual students
- Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education
- Ability to use student data and language proficiency assessment results to inform classroom instruction and programing for multilingual students
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with administrators, colleagues, students, parents and community members
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree in applicable field of education from an accredited college or university
REQUIRED CREDENTIALS:
- Maine State Teacher certification with 660 endorsement (more info)
- Maine State CHRC authorization (more info) **

PREFERRED CREDENTIALS:
- Grade-level appropriate teacher certification
- Pre-K Teacher (081)
- Teacher of Students with Disabilities (282, 0-5)
- General Elementary Teacher (020, K-5)
- Fluency in language(s) other than English
