TITLE: Middle School Art Teacher - Moore Middle
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Art Teacher at Moore Middle School will foster creativity and artistic expression for students in grades 6-8, using a variety of media and techniques. The teacher will also provide behavioral support in alignment with school-wide practices and assess student progress to inform instruction. The role requires collaboration, cultural responsiveness, and a strong commitment to equity and inclusive education.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Instruction & Curriculum Development
- Develop and deliver standards-based art lessons across multiple grade levels (Grades 6-8).
- Teach visual art using a wide range of media including drawing, painting, sculpture, collage, printmaking and clay.
- Incorporate culturally responsive and age-appropriate practices into curriculum and instruction.
- Differentiate lessons to meet diverse learning needs and developmental stages.
Classroom & Behavior Management
- Create and maintain a safe, positive, and inclusive classroom environment.
- Implement school-wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)
- Use proactive strategies to manage behavior and support students with behavioral and social-emotional needs.
- Collaborate with school counselors, special educators, ESOL teachers, and intervention teams to support individual students.
Assessment & Documentation
- Use formative and summative assessments to evaluate student learning and artistic growth.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and share data with administrators and parents as needed.
- Use student assessment data to adjust instructional strategies and personalize learning experiences.
Collaboration & Professionalism
- Work collaboratively with classroom teachers, specialists, and administrators to integrate art across the curriculum.
- Participate in school-wide meetings, professional development, and planning sessions.
- Communicate regularly with families about student progress, projects, and classroom expectations.
Additional Duties
- Organize student art displays throughout the school and in the community.
- Maintain inventory and responsibly manage art supplies and materials.
- Support school events, art shows, and community engagement initiatives.
- Uphold equity, inclusion, and trauma-informed practices in all interactions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in art or in art education.
- Experience working with middle-aged students in diverse, high-need school settings.
- Strong classroom management and behavioral support skills.
- Knowledge of child development and responsive teaching strategies.
- Passion for arts education and equity in public schools.
CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Maine State teacher certification with 620 Endorsement (Art, PK-12) (more info)
