Paraprofessional 1 (Part Time)- Middle School

Portland Public Schools is accepting applications for a Paraprofessional Class 1 position at Portland Middle School.

We are seeking a caring, patient, and student-centered individual who is passionate about supporting middle school students in a positive and collaborative learning environment. This is a part-time position with scheduled hours of 10:45 a.m. to 1:45 p.m., Monday through Friday, with the possibility of additional hours based on student and district needs. A primary responsibility of this position will be providing student supervision and support during all middle school lunch periods, helping maintain a safe, positive, and orderly environment for students.

The desired candidate would possess the following attributes:

• Ability to assist students with instructional and non-instructional needs as directed by teachers and administration.
• Ability to provide active supervision and support during all student lunch periods, promoting appropriate behavior, safety, and positive student interactions.
• Ability to assist with lunchroom routines, student transitions, and maintaining an orderly cafeteria environment.
• Ability to support students with technology, classroom assignments, and learning activities as needed.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Understanding of, or willingness to learn, positive behavior management and student support strategies.
• Ability to remain calm, patient, and professional in challenging or stressful situations.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding student information and records.
• Compassion, flexibility, dependability, and a positive attitude.
• Ability to provide appropriate supervision of students in classrooms, hallways, lunchrooms, and other school settings.
• Commitment to building positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
• Willingness to contribute to a safe, supportive, and collaborative school environment.

Eligible candidates must meet the following qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with students, staff, parents, and district colleagues.
• Ability to support student learning, engagement, and achievement.
• Commitment to maintaining a safe and inclusive school environment that promotes high expectations, collaboration, and student success.
• Ability to follow directions, work independently when appropriate, and collaborate effectively as part of an educational team.

Position Details

• Title: Paraprofessional Class 1
• Location: Portland Middle School
• Reports To: Middle School Principal or Designee
• Schedule: Monday–Friday, 10:45 a.m.–1:45 p.m. (approximately 15 hours per week), additional hours may be available based on student and district needs.
• Calendar: School Year, Part-Time
• Compensation: In accordance with the Portland Educational Support Personnel Association (PESPA) Collective Bargaining Agreement, including applicable retirement and paid leave benefits.
