Job Summary
The Quality/Materials Engineer II is responsible for ensuring product and process quality through the development and implementation of process parameters specific to heat treatment, continuous improvement initiatives, and compliance with industry regulations. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve quality issues, provide guidance on metallurgical items, and drive corrective and preventive actions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain quality assurance processes with the use of metallurgical expertise.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for non-conforming materials, processes, and products.
  • Perform statistical analysis and process capability studies to support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain quality documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and quality control plans.
  • Utilize Six Sigma, Lean, or other methodologies to improve quality performance and reduce variability.
  • Develop and perform metallurgical based programs and improvement projects.
  • Work with heat treatment and steel suppliers to establish and maintain quality expectations and drive supplier corrective actions as needed.
  • Support new product development by ensuring quality requirements are met throughout the product lifecycle.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical / Materials Engineering or related Technical Field (Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or related field) or equivalent experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a quality engineering role, preferably in a manufacturing or regulated environment.
  • Experience with ISO 9001, AS9100, or regulated industry is a plus.
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis tools and data analytics (Minitab, JMP, or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or other process improvement methodologies.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify minute surface defects.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Attention to detail and a proactive approach to quality improvement.
  • High level of initiative and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with safety and environmental regulations.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry inspection equipment (up to 50 lbs).
  • Comfortable working in a manufacturing facility with exposure to high temperatures.
  • Ability to stand, kneel, or crouch as needed.
  • Occasional travel may be required for supplier audits and off-site visits.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in automotive, aerospace, or other highly regulated industries.
  • Familiarity with ERP and PLM systems.

Work Environment:

  • Industrial or manufacturing setting with exposure to noise and varying temperatures.
