Qualifications

  • Valid teaching license, administrator's license, social work license, counseling license, or comparable certification
  • Masters degree and/or special education director's license preferred
  • At Least 5 Years of experience in education, preferably as a school psychologist or educational diagnostician
  • Experience in conducting special education evaluations
  • Experience in staff training and development

Reports to: Executive Director for Special Education

Job Goal: to oversee the multi-disciplinary team in the execution of exceptional special education evaluations for students

Performance Responsibilities

Staff Oversight

  • Recruit, interview, and recommend for employment multidisciplinary team members including School Psychologists and Educational Diagnosticians
  • Directly supervise School Psychologists, Educational Diagnosticians, and clerical staff.
  • Provide training with other administrative staff in PCES policies and procedures.
  • Conduct staff evaluations and develop professional growth plans for appropriate staff.
  • Identify staff members with unsatisfactory performance and develop an effectiveness report, improvement plan, and implementation timelines for such staff. Recommend continued employment or dismissal of such staff.
  • Determine multidisciplinary staff assignments and caseloads.
  • Plan and conduct regular multidisciplinary staff meetings to address district and county issues; new and revised policies and procedures; changes in state and federal laws, regulations, and requirements; compliance issues; best educational practices; in-service, etc.
  • Develop relationships and a positive rapport with colleagues within PCES and the greater special education community.

Case Conferences and Student Programming

  • Review and revise any PCES evaluation procedures as needed. Inform applicable stakeholders of evaluation processes and procedures.
  • Attend select initial and reevaluation case conferences that require specific and detailed knowledge of special education laws, policies, procedures, and resources. Participate in the development of evaluation reports and IEPs for complex cases.
  • Review reports, IEPs and other student documents produced by multidisciplinary staff.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with IEP processes associated with initial evaluations and reevaluations in accordance with state and federal laws.
  • Complete required documentation or report submission to state or other agencies.
  • Respond to parent complaints, both local and those filed at the state level regarding evaluation issues.
  • Participate in mediation sessions, when needed, to resolve disagreements with parents/guardians.
  • Participate in due process hearings and any related preparation for such hearings in matters concerning evaluations.
  • Oversee requests for Independent Educational Evaluations.

Program, Curriculum, And Methodology

  • Obtain, review, and disseminate to staff information relative to current research in evaluation and education and best practices in special education.
  • Obtain and review assessment materials and assist staff in the selection and procurement of such materials.
  • Plan and design in-service for professional staff, building administrators, and general education staff.
  • Oversee the process of utilizing Indiana's IEP software (Special Programs) by multidisciplinary staff. Orchestrate training as needed.

General Administrative And Other Responsibilities

  • Oversee Medicaid billing and associated processes.
  • Assist in the development of PCES long and short term goals.
  • Participate as a member of the PCES and district administrative teams.
  • Remain knowledgeable of changes and potential changes in state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Ensure confidentiality, maintain records in compliance with state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Develop partnerships with other Porter County and state agencies who provide services to students and adults with disabilities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Terms of Employment: 215 days

Contract Amount

$85,000 starting salary with consideration of credentials and experience
