OVERVIEW

We’re hiring a General Manager based in Bozeman, Montana to run day-to-day operations for Bozeman’s new social contrast therapy club, Portal. This is a full-time, in-person role that blends hands-on leadership with operational ownership, including team management, scheduling and payroll, facilities care, inventory oversight, and delivering an exceptional guest experience.


The role includes around 32 hours per week of regular shifts in the club, including tending to wood-fired saunas and cold plunges, as well as own the behind-the-scenes systems that keep the club running smoothly. The total hourly requirement for this role can range anywhere between 40-50 hours per week, depending on the needs of the club.

Type: Full time in-person: 32 hours per week in the club, with additional administrative work that can be completed from home

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

People leadership, scheduling, and shift coverage

  • Build and maintain weekly schedules for all team members using 7shifts, ensuring reliable coverage for peak/off-peak hours.
  • Manage time-off requests, shift swaps, call-outs, and last-minute coverage.
  • Train, coach, and hold staff accountable to service standards, cleaning standards, and safety procedures.
  • Lead by example on the floor—working shifts alongside the team for 32 hours per week.

Payroll and labor administration

  • Own timesheet accuracy and approvals; ensure clock-in/out compliance and clean payroll handoff each pay period.
  • Track labor targets, overtime, and staffing efficiency; adjust schedules to meet budget and service needs.
  • Maintain organized staff records and support onboarding/offboarding logistics.
  • Sauna operations (hands-on shift work)
  • Operate and tend wood-fired saunas safely and confidently, maintaining consistent heat levels and guest comfort.
  • Monitor sauna performance, ventilation, wood supply, ash disposal, and general fire safety practices.
  • Train team members on best practices for wood-fired operations and guest communication around sauna etiquette.

Repairs, maintenance, and upgrades

  • Maintain a running repair log and preventative maintenance schedule for saunas, cold plunges, showers, HVAC/ventilation, laundry, and other facility systems.
  • Coordinate vendors/contractors: troubleshoot issues, request quotes, schedule work, and verify quality of repairs.
  • Manage small DIY repairs and improvements when appropriate; escalate larger needs quickly and clearly.
  • Support capital upgrades and club improvements—help source materials, coordinate timelines, and keep the facility guest-ready.

Inventory and supply management

  • Manage inventory par levels and ordering for: towels, cleaning supplies, sauna supplies, firewood, water testing supplies, retail items, and guest amenities.
  • Receive shipments, organize storage areas, and keep spaces labeled and tidy.

Guest relations and club experience

  • Be a visible, steady presence for members and guests—warm, professional, and solutions-oriented.
  • Resolve guest concerns in the moment with empathy and judgment; follow up when needed.
  • Protect the club vibe: uphold etiquette, cleanliness standards, and respectful community norms.
  • Support membership retention by creating consistently excellent experiences and a well-run environment.

Standards, safety, and cleanliness

  • Own operational checklists for opening/closing, cleaning, water quality, and safety protocols.
  • Receive Certified Pool Operator (CPO) status, test water, and maintain daily water quality logs.
  • Ensure cold plunge water care standards are followed (testing logs, filtration checks, chemical handling where applicable).
  • Maintain clean, calm, social-yet-spa-level presentation across all guest-facing and staff areas.

Events and partnerships

  • Coordinate wellness-related events and manage local partnerships.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 1 to 3 years of operations leadership experience (hospitality, fitness, wellness, spa, boutique retail, or similar).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; remain calm under pressure, sound judgment, and strong conflict resolution.
  • Proven experience with staff scheduling and payroll administration.
  • Comfortable in a physically active role: lifting/carrying supplies, handling firewood, moving quickly during shifts.
  • Strong facilities mindset: organized repair tracking, vendor coordination, and basic DIY troubleshooting.
  • Reliable, detail-oriented, and systems-minded: you are able to carry out repeatable processes.
  • Experience with wood-fired sauna operations.
  • Familiarity with water care/testing for cold plunge, pools, or spas.
  • Experience with SOP creation, training programs, or multi-site operations.

 

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • $72,000 annual base salary, plus a monthly bonus tied to club performance.
