Title: Custodian-Days Groundskeeper
Schedule: Monday - Friday
Hours: 8.5 Hours 6:00 am - 2:30 pm, 30 Minute Unpaid Lunch
Location: Portage HS
Summary: The job of Daytime Custodian/Groundskeeper was established for the purpose/s of providing custodial services and groundskeeping at the assigned building; ensuring an attractive, sanitary, and safe environment for students, staff, and visitors; performing a variety of special cleaning operations, and assisting in preparing for and maintaining facilities both indoors and outside for classroom activities and building-level events.
Essential Functions
Include the following plus any other duties that may be required by the employer. Specific duties and responsibilities will be assigned by the building custodial supervisor.
Keeps building and premises neat and clean at all times.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Physical demands include, but are not limited to, walking and standing for prolonged periods of time. Must be able to bend, stoop, climb, reach, lift objects weighing up to 50lbs and move objects weighing up to 100lbs using appropriate equipment.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The employee is required to use the appropriate personal protection equipment when performing these tasks. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

- Changing filters on a regular basis.
- Mowing Responsibilities
- Push Mower β Utilize push mower in areas/corners close to building not accessible by tractor and islands in the parking lots.
- All other areas must be trimmed with a weed eater. This includes all trees, shrubs, signs, poles, curbs, and edges of the building.
- Sidewalks and entryways should be free of grass clippings and debris.
- The following areas should be weeded and maintained on a regular basis: flower beds, areas around signage, mulched areas, playgrounds or outdoor sports fields, islands in the parking lots, parking lots, picnic areas, sidewalks, and entrances
- Use a tractor to remove snow from main sidewalks and playgrounds.
- Shovel or snow blow any other areas or entryways not accessible by a tractor.
- Use salt spreader on walks, driveways, and playgrounds, as needed.
- Leaves should be raked and removed on a regular basis during the fall.
- Bushes and trees on school grounds should be trimmed and maintained, as needed.
- Maintain mulch coverage in areas around trees, poles and signs as needed.
- Maintain mulch coverage on playgrounds.
