Shift: Afternoon 2:30 pm - 11:00 pm
Summary:
Leads, manage, supervises, and coordinates activities of the building custodial staff by performing the following duties.
Leadership Responsibilities:
The shift supervisor reports to the head custodian. The shift supervisor is in charge of the custodians throughout the school, to make sure they keep hallways, stairwells, and toilet rooms clean during the day. The supervisor develops a strong connection between the achievement of high standards and quality of the building custodial team and the Portage Township Schools core value and district goals of providing a safe, clean and healthy environment that is necessary for student learning.
ManagementDuties:
- Direct and evaluate the work of their assigned custodians.
- Assign cleaning tasks to custodians.
- Inspect completed work to make sure it is done correctly.
- Issue supplies and equipment.
- Train new custodians on scrubber, burnishes, auto scrubbers, and other machines used to maintain the integrity of the school.
- Prepare supply and equipment orders.
- Maintain an inventory of supplies.
- Develop and maintain procedures for cleaning and maintenance of all equipment.
- Submit requests for work orders through Work Order System.
- Responsible for recording custodial leave time (vacation, sick and personal).
- Assign over time according to the union contract.
- Create Summer Work Schedule.
- Schedule, assign and evaluate subs as needed.
- Perform duties of custodian when needed.
- Works with outside contacts on Facility Request Forms.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities include the following plus any other duties that may be required by the employer. Specific duties and responsibilities will be assigned by the building custodial supervisor.
- Clean, dust mop, scrub and wax resilient floors as needed to protect floor finish.
- Operate floor scrubber and buffer.
- Shampoo carpeting when assigned.
- Dry mop floors in rooms and hallways.
- Clean and vacuum carpeting in rooms.
- Empty wastebaskets and dispose of refuse in appropriate waste containers.
- Stock machines and/or towel dispensers
- Scrub and disinfect shower and locker rooms as assigned.
- Change incandescent and fluorescent bulbs.
- Clean chalkboards and erasers as assigned.
- Clean chairs and desktops in assigned area(s)
- Clean and scrub walls, water fountains, sinks, bowls, etc.
- Clean glass in windows both on the inside and outside as assigned.
- Clean snow, ice, and debris from all sidewalks and entrances to the building when assigned.
- Clean restroom areas as assigned.
- Clean heating and ventilating equipment as assigned.
- Move Furniture and/or equipment as assigned.
- Keep custodial storage area(s) clean, neat, and free of clutter and combustible materials.
- Close and lock all windows and doors in the assigned area of responsibility.
- Be responsible for the security of all school corporation keys issued.
- Submit a request for supplies to the appropriate supervisor.

Physical demands include, but are not limited to, walking and standing for prolonged periods of time. Must be able to bend, stoop, climb, reach, lift objects weighing up to 50lbs and move objects weighing up to 100lbs using appropriate equipment.
