Job Description: Banquet Captain
Reports To:
Events Manager, Director of Food & Beverage
Summary:
Portage Country Club seeks a dynamic leader with a keen eye for detail for our Banquet Captain role. The Banquet Captain assists the Manager on Duty during on-site functions and events and always ensures that member satisfaction standards are consistently met. The Banquet Captain acts as lead server on all banquets, including setup, execution, breakdown, and reset for future events.
Portage Country Club offers year-round Food and Beverage services in multiple dining settings and hosts banquets and private events, golf tournaments, swim team events, and tennis programming.
Essential Job Duties:
As the Banquet Captain at Portage Country Club, you will:
- Coordinate food service between kitchen and banquet service staff.
- Inspect all linens daily for proper appearance.
- Review table diagrams and other event room set-up needs for special events.
- Conduct daily line-up to ensure smooth, efficient service.
- Review staff grooming and uniform compliance.
- Assign server stations and coordinate the timing of courses.
- Assist with inventory of all banquet service equipment and supplies.
- Ensure the neatness, cleanliness, and safety of all banquet areas.
- Interact with banquet host or hostess to assure all needs are being met.
- Ensure that state and local laws and club policies and procedures for the service of alcoholic beverages are consistently followed.
- Complete other appropriate assignments as assigned by the Manager on Duty.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to stand and continuously move for the duration of a regular shift.
- Must be able to maneuver, bend, twist, pivot, and navigate stairs.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs. or more on a regular basis.
Educational and/or Experience Requirements:
- At least one year experience working in a hospitality or private club setting preferred.
- At least one year in a leadership role is preferred.
- Has bartending experience.
- Exemplary customer service skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to create an environment that cultivates teamwork and camaraderie among team members.
- Experience with using computers and familiarity with point-of-sale systems.
- Overall understanding and knowledge of Food & Beverage Services.
- Candidate is highly encouraged and provided opportunities to develop professionally through CMAA or similar organizations.

$17-21 per hour based on experience
