What are the responsibilities and job description for the Thermoforming Process Technician position at Portage Casting & Mold, Inc.?
This is a full-time, on-site position in Portage, WI. The technician is primarily responsible for day to day operations within our thermoforming division with some cross-functional opportunities as needed for other departments (Pattern, Foundry, Finishing). Within the thermoforming and quality division the technician will be operating thermoforming machinery to form parts from plastic sheet and trimming parts to customer size. These parts will be monitored by the technician to ensure proper quality standards in size, form, and avoiding product defects. The technician will be in charge of setting up mold tooling within machinery and adjusting forming parameters to achieve accurate, high quality parts and to make adjustments as needed during forming runs to maintain standard.
- Maintain a positive and cooperative attitude with co-workers, employer, customers, and suppliers.
- Ability to be self directed and hard working.
- Must learn all proper and safe practices for mold installation and set-ups. Demonstrated safe working habits.
- Assist and eventually own setup of operation and use secondary equipment. This includes and is not limited to robot/cnc/hand routing auxiliary equipment.
- Must learn the essentials of machine control systems and be able to input existing job recipes into required forming machines.
- Must have ability to critically think and troubleshoot forming process to achieve best results in product.
- Must possess a basic level of mechanical skills.
- Attention to quality detail.
- Ability to be cross-functional as needed.
Requirements
- High School Education and/or GED preferred and/or combination of experience, training, and education.
- Use of addition, subtraction, multiplication and the division of numbers including decimals and fractions
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to learn thermoforming process, secondary and robot equipment.
- Must be mechanically inclined. Work with electronics, hydraulics, pneumatics.
- Demonstrated ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to get along with fellow employees and management.
- Sufficient strength, agility, and dexterity to perform all required task.
- Preferred - experience in thermoforming machinery.
- Preferred - experience in quality control.
- Preferred - experience meeting with customers.
- Preferred - Higher education in Plastics manufacturing or industrial manufacturing or 5 year's experience.
Physical Demands
- Ability to stand for extended periods, handle materials and equipment safely, lift moderate weights, and consistently work with ambient temperatures exceeding 85°
- Standing and walking for long periods at a time.
- Perform tasks such as reaching, feeling, handling, grasping, twisting and turning.
- Lifting, carrying, pushing and or pulling 50 lbs., but must exercise good judgment on selecting the proper equipment to assist in heavy moves.
- Good communication skills with the ability to speak and hear others clearly.
