What are the responsibilities and job description for the Waterline Operator position at Port Townsend Paper Corporation?

The Position

We currently have an opening for a Waterline Operator. The general maintenance of the Caretaker’s complex, access road, grounds, building structures and related equipment.  The Caretaker is also part of the crew that operates and maintains the entire waterworks system. This role reports directly to the Waterline Superintendent.

The Port Townsend Paper (“PTPC”) mill is proud to have been in continuous operation for more than 90 years. We use a blend of virgin and recycled fibers (Kraft and OCC pulp) to produce Kraft pulp, paper, containerboard, medium and market pulp. Qualifications:

Job Responsibilities

  • Monitors, operates, and maintains the equipment and facilities at the caretaker’s site.
  • Participates in relief duties as required for days-off and vacations.
  • Waterline crew work.
  • Monitors and reports critical data.
  • Interface with the City of Port Townsend Public Works department, Forest Service and other public agencies as related to the area and service.
  • Personal safety.
  • Be on call whenever in the area.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Good mechanical aptitude and skills. 
  • Understands basic hydraulics and systems. 
  • Familiar with preventative maintenance techniques. 
  • Good driving skills

 

  • Ability to communicate effectively with the team

 

Required Education

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.

 

Required Experience

  • Has lived in a remote environment for at least (2) years and can live remotely in all weather conditions and seasons.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to pass physician, auditory and drug screening tests.

 

Work Schedule, and Work Environment

  • This is a full-time/on-call exempt position.

 

Employment Terms

  • Full time, Exempt position
  • Salary range: $60,000 to $80,000 DOE.
  • Excellent benefits package including medical, dental, life, and long-term disability insurance.
  • 2 weeks paid vacation or more depending on position.
  • Full-time employees receive 120 hours of sick leave upon hire then earn eight hours of sick leave per month.
  • 9 paid holidays and one paid personal holiday per calendar year.
  • Retirement plan.
  • Employee Assistance coverage with full services, including dietary and nutritional services, retirement planning, and support services.
  • In compliance with the Immigration and Naturalization Act, proof of authorization to work in the United States will be required at the time of hire.
  • Prior to a new hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant’s suitability and competence to perform in the position.
