QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Hold a valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsement in mathematics.
  2. Candidates with additional experience/endorsements in STEM and/or technology are preferred.   
  3. Demonstrated successful teaching skills in math, which may include student teaching.
  4. Demonstrated ability to establish strong relationships with students that support learning.
  5. Experience and/or training in developing authentic assessment and performance experiences in high school.
  6. Demonstrated commitment to professional achievement and growth.
  7. Understanding of the Common Core mathematics standards and implementation in the classroom.
  8. Demonstrated ability to design and modify curriculum and instruction by utilizing research-based practices to meet a wide range of student abilities and learning styles, including students with IEPs.
  9. Demonstrated experience with technology as an instructional tool to enhance math learning.
  10. Demonstrated willingness and desire to participate in district and state workshops, in-services, and classes relevant to providing quality teaching.
  11. Demonstrated compatibility with fellow staff members, including strong collaboration skills.
  12. Demonstrated understanding and support of place-based learning.
  13. Demonstrated understanding of culturally responsive teaching practices.
  14. Demonstrated understanding of inclusion and inclusionary practices in the high school setting.

 

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:      

 

  1. Work collaboratively with math, science, and STEM teachers to provide K-12 continuity and vertical alignment.
  2. Continuous improvement in math teaching skills that align with STEM and technology innovations for student learning.
  3. Utilize positive techniques for improving student behavior and maintaining order appropriate to a productive learning environment.
  4. Communicate regularly with parents about student progress and respond to questions/concerns in a timely manner.
  5. Demonstrate competence with technology for professional purposes, e.g. e-mail, Microsoft Office, voice mail, Skyward, etc.
  6. Maintain accurate student records including grades, attendance reports, and others as required.
  7. Possess good communication skills, flexibility, and willing to do whatever it takes to support school students – while keeping a sense of humor!
  8. Demonstrate ability to work collaboratively and flexibly with administrators, staff, and parents to determine and achieve school goals and develop a positive school climate.
  9. Enforce school rules and monitor student behavior in non-classroom settings.
  10. Participate in staff meetings and work constructively with colleagues to evaluate current school practices and to make needed improvements.
  11. Be a positive contributing member of our school team!
  12. Participate in learning and supporting all school initiatives including MTSS and PBIS.
  13. Willing to serve as coach/advisor/supervisor to student activities and athletic teams.
  14. Willing to pursue additional certifications and/or endorsements to fulfill teaching requirements for math courses
  15. Support students and families in engaging with learning throughout the week and outside of classroom instruction time to ensure all students are making academic progress.
  16. Work in team situations and will work cooperatively with program and building certificated and classified staff.
  17. Participate in scheduled staff meetings and identified training(s).
  18. Collaborate with staff, especially regarding the needs of students with IEP’s, 504 plans, and Highly Capable learners.
  19. Other duties as assigned by the supervising principal.

Bargaining Unit: Port Townsend Education Association

 

Salary Range: DOE, 2025-26 $61,500 - $119,584

Salary schedule will be updated for the 2026-27 year once available.

 

BENEFITS:

 

Benefits include Sick Leave, Personal Leave, Medical, Dental, Vision, AD&D, and Basic Life insurance coverages.  Retirement is through the WA State Department of Retirement, plans available: TERS Plan 2 or TERS Plan 3.
