Position: Contemporary Worship Leader (Part-Time, ~10 hours/week)Accountable To: Session, through the Worship Team
Purpose
The Contemporary Music & Worship Leader provides musical and spiritual leadership for the contemporary worship service. In collaboration with the Pastor, staff, and Worship Team, this position plans and leads Christ-centered, theologically grounded worship that is engaging, accessible, and rooted in the Reformed tradition.
This role cultivates a vibrant praise band ministry, encourages congregational participation, and integrates music thoughtfully with Scripture and the weekly message.
Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in music or related field preferred (experience may be considered in lieu of degree)
- Demonstrated Christian faith.
- Experience leading contemporary worship and vocal/instrumental ensembles.
- Proficiency in vocal leadership; instrumental proficiency (guitar or keyboard preferred)
- Working knowledge of worship technology platforms (Planning Center, ProPresenter, livestream systems, sound equipment)
- Ability to pass background screening.
Primary Responsibilities
1. Worship Planning & Leadership
- Collaborate regularly with the Pastor to select music aligned with Scripture, sermon themes, and the liturgical calendar.
- Plan and lead music for the weekly contemporary worship service.
- Provide engaging leadership that supports strong congregational singing.
- Assist in shaping a cohesive worship experience that integrates music, prayer, and Scripture.
- Collaborate with the Pastor and ministry leaders to support church events
2. Rehearsal & Musical Direction
- Lead weekly praise band rehearsals.
- Arrange or adapt music to fit available instrumentation.
- Direct musicians during worship services
- Maintain organized digital and print music resources.
3. Technology & Production Coordination
- Utilize Planning Center (or similar platform) for scheduling and service organization.
- Prepare and manage ProPresenter slides for worship services.
- Coordinate with volunteers to support sound, media, and livestream elements.
- Oversee basic worship, technology needs, and communication equipment concerns.
4. Volunteer Recruitment & Development
- Recruit, schedule, and mentor volunteer vocalists and instrumentalists.
- Foster a collaborative, respectful, and spiritually grounded team culture.
- Provide clear communication regarding music, expectations, and schedules.
- Ensure compliance with safety policies, including background checks and training.
5. Administration & Stewardship
- Ensure compliance with copyright and licensing requirements.
- Assist with budget input related to contemporary worship needs.
- Participate in worship planning meetings as requested.
