What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Internship-Welder/Fabricator-Port of Morrow position at Port of Morrow?
General Position Summary:
The employee will observe and learn from POM welder/fabricators who are responsible for all fabrication and welding for the port properties which can include many different projects.
Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:
· Observe POM welders develop layout and plans sequence of operations.
· Fabricate and assemble sheet metal products.
· Repairs products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping and reassembling parts.
· Consults Lead Welder on blueprints and sketches to execute jobs and tasks to specification.
· Assesses equipment, structures, materials and job specifications for appropriate welding positions and methods.
· Evaluate finished products and perform quality checks on finished product.
· Monitors equipment for appropriate usage and temperature.
· Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.
· Abide by all local, state, and federal regulations, as well as all company safety procedures.
Secondary Functions:
· Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
Job Scope:
Job duties vary from day-to-day operation. Employees follow established practices and procedures. Duties are performed with specific directions given and work is checked or verified visually on a frequent basis. Decisions are made with specific operational instructions and departmental guidelines. Errors in judgment could affect the smooth and efficient operation of the Port grounds.
Supervisory Responsibility:
Job has no supervisory responsibility.
Interpersonal Contacts:
Contacts are made with others both inside and outside the organization. Internal contacts frequently include Utility & Maintenance Manager and all office personnel. Interactions tend to focus on information exchange, receiving direction, or receiving training. Contacts could include sensitive or confidential information.
Specific Job Skills to Observe and Learn
· Knowledge of public works construction and maintenance tools, equipment, materials and methods.
· Ability to perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines.
· Has basic knowledge of blueprints.
· Good organizational skills.
· Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
· Ability to work outside in different climates including cold, wet, hot and windy conditions.
· Ability to stand for long periods including bending, stooping and reaching.
· Must be at least 18 years of age.
· Must possess a valid driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record, and proof of current vehicle insurance.
· Must be able pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening.
Job Conditions:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside-weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions and vibrations. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
