What are the responsibilities and job description for the Telecommunications Officer/ Dispatcher position at Port of Galveston?
Job Description:
This position will be responsible for monitoring by surveillance of activities throughout the Port by Closed Circuit Television Cameras (CCTC) and taking appropriate action when needed with the aid of a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system for records management and time keeping purposes. This position also requires the tracking and time keeping of all vessels docking and departing the Port of Galveston for billing purposes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Receiving emergency calls and non-emergency calls requesting police assistance and their services
· Monitor and transmit radio traffic via multiple open air channels
· Monitor a VHF marine traffic radio channel for interfacing directly with vessels requesting assistance of both emergency and non-emergency situations
· Utilize Microsoft Office Suite to generate reports for the vessel activity on the Port of Galveston daily for the Port’s accounting department
· Monitor a computerized security system with electronic door locks, safety alarms, and subject entry tracking capability
· Will be required to learn the regulations of maritime domain awareness, decision support software, and Federal guidelines for maritime security via Homeland Security
· Monitor and operate the Texas Crime Information Center (TCIC) Computer System which has a direct link to the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) under the guidance of the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) for viewing and handling security sensitive and time sensitive materials and data

· Requires ability to escort vendors into the Dispatch area from non-secure areas.
· Requires the learning of regulations of maritime domain awareness, decision support software, and Federal guidelines for maritime security via Homeland Security.
· Requires the tracking and time keeping of all vessels docking and departing the Port of Galveston for billing purposes Microsoft Office Suite will be used to generate for the vessel activity on the Port of Galveston daily vessel report for the Port's accounting department.

Minimum Qualifications:
· A high school diploma or education equivalent there to
· Demonstrated computer skills will be requested along with knowledge of Windows based operating systems and Microsoft Office Suites.
· Agency specific training will be provided and must be successfully completed to maintain the position.
· Continuing education on an annual basis is required by the State of Texas for criminal justice employment.
· Able to multi-task.
· Must be able to work a flexible schedule
· Must pass a criminal background check, including submitting for finger prints.
· Must meet the criteria for obtaining a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
· Must be able to meet the criteria for obtaining FBI clearance for a license for the Texas Crime Information Center (TCIC) Computer System.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Police dispatching experience is preferred.
· Experience with phone and radio communication
· Receiving and transmitting equipment knowledge is a plus.

Pay: $22.96 - $27.66 per hour
