Position Summary
The Facilities and Parks Maintenance Technician is responsible for the upkeep, repair, and general maintenance of parks, public spaces, and organizational facilities. This position ensures that grounds, buildings, and amenities remain safe, clean, and welcoming for the community, while supporting long-term facility management goals.
Key Responsibilities
Parks & Grounds Maintenance
- Maintain walking paths, picnic areas, playgrounds, restrooms, shelters, and recreational facilities.
- Collect and dispose of litter, debris, and waste from parks and public areas.
- Inspect and repair park equipment, benches, fencing, and signage.
- Primarily responsible for the upkeep of and maintenance of the parking lots, ensuring that crack fill, sealing, and striping are kept in good condition.
- Ensures event setup is complete, including cleaning and repair of grills, games, and patio heaters.
Facilities & Buildings Maintenance
- Conduct routine inspections, cleaning, and upkeep of buildings, restrooms, and community-use facilities.
- Perform minor repairs in plumbing, carpentry, electrical, and painting.
- Monitor HVAC, lighting, and other building systems, reporting issues as needed.
- Inspects fire extinguishers on a monthly basis and assists in the annual inspection.
- Assist with setup and breakdown of facilities for community events and activities.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with safety, health, and environmental regulations in public areas and facilities.
- Inspect and maintain fire extinguishers, first aid kits, and emergency systems within buildings and grounds.
- Respond promptly to hazards, damages, or unsafe conditions.
Equipment & Tools
- Operate and maintain groundskeeping and maintenance equipment, including mowers, trimmers, tractors, and hand tools.
- Perform preventative maintenance on organizational vehicles and equipment as assigned.
Seasonal & Weather-Related Duties
- Prepare grounds and facilities for seasonal changes, including irrigation blowouts and winterization.
- Assist with snow/ice removal, leaf cleanup, and storm response.
- Perform post-storm assessments, debris clearing, and repairs to ensure safe use of facilities and parks.
Marina Infrastructure Support (as needed)
- Assist Marina Infrastructure Maintenance staff when a second technician is required to meet L&I or OSHA safety requirements.
- Provide support with dock, utility, and waterfront maintenance projects when primary facilities and park duties are complete.
- Participate in emergency response and storm preparation efforts affecting both marina and park facilities.
Customer Service & Team Support
- Interact with the public, tenants, and event users in a courteous and professional manner.
- Support community events by assisting with setup, logistics, and cleanup.
- Collaborate with fellow maintenance staff to complete projects efficiently.
Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 2 years of experience in facilities maintenance, construction, or related field.
- Basic skills in plumbing, carpentry, painting, and mechanical systems.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs, work outdoors in all weather, and perform manual labor.
- Valid driver’s license.
Preferred:
- Parks, recreation, or municipal maintenance experience preferred.
- Certifications in CPR/First Aid, pesticide application, or equipment operation.
- Knowledge of irrigation systems and grounds management best practices.
- Knowledge of Public Works Procurement and Projects.
Work Environment
- Outdoor and indoor settings with exposure to variable weather conditions.
- Frequent contact with the public and community organizations.
- Requires flexibility to work weekends, evenings, holidays, and emergency response shifts.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $17.50 - $18.00 per hour
