School Maintenance Crew Leader

Comprehensive knowledge of buildings and grounds operation and maintenance practices; thorough knowledge of the basic principles and methods of plumbing, painting, plastering, masonry, and carpentry; good knowledge of the operation, maintenance and safety characteristics of high and low pressure boilers; good knowledge of effective supervisory methods; ability to plan and supervise the work of subordinate supervisors and tradespeople in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale; ability to estimate time and material costs and to order sufficient supplies and equipment for each project; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to prepare, interpret, and work from technical sketches, specifications and plans; ability to maintain records and to prepare time and progress reports; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

Assigns and oversees the work of school maintenance/grounds personnel, and/or outside contractors, engaged in repairing and maintaining buildings, grounds, and equipment in a school district; reviews work in progress to ensure adherence to time schedules and departmental standards.

Supervises and participates with workers on the best methods of installing or repairing door locks, hinges, shelf brackets, sash chains, and other building fixtures. Participates in the maintenance of the school district’s buildings, equipment, fields, and other properties.

Makes frequent inspections of school buildings to determine maintenance needs of floors, walls, windows, doors, desks, and boilers; prepares requisitions for lumber, paint, plumbing and lighting fixtures and other supplies needed to complete a maintenance project.
