Student Success Coach

QUALIFICATIONS

• Valid Michigan Secondary Teaching Certificate
• Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree, Master’s degree preferred
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Commitment to life-long learning
• Special Education and Second Step experience preferred
• Experience working with at-risk, disengaged, or alternative education students preferred
• Knowledge of trauma-informed practices, restorative practices, and behavior intervention strategies
• Experience with credit recovery and graduation planning
• Ability to collaborate with community agencies and support services
• Knowledge of PBIS and MTSS

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop and maintain a confidential, collegial relationship with teachers in order to successfully provide opportunities for student growth
• Create and maintain an environment that fosters student achievement and the development of lifelong skills
• Be flexible, resourceful, innovative and can effectively manage the design and execution of learning experiences, both formal and informal, that are very responsive to the needs of students and the context in which learning is taking place
• Maximize opportunities for student success by creating positive working relationships with students
• Maintain accurate and timely records related to attendance, academic progress, interventions, family contacts, graduation status, and student support services
• Support students with engagement strategies, including PBIS and CHAMPS
• Attend professional development in the use of research-based instructional strategies (where appropriate)
• Encourage ongoing academic growth for all students
• Be flexible, resourceful, innovative and can effectively manage the design and execution of learning experiences, both formal and informal, that are very responsive to the needs of students and the context in which learning is taking place
• Observe and evaluate student’s performance and development. Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students
• Monitor historical student data to detect chronic absenteeism patterns, triggering interventions once established thresholds are met and contact parents via phone, email, and text to confirm student locations and ascertain the specific reasons behind unexcused absences
• Monitor total student absences to trigger specific intervention protocols exactly when they hit district-defined truancy limits.
• Issue Mandated Notifications: Draft and mail formal, legally required truancy warning letters to parents upon a student reaching policy milestones
• Conducts himself/herself in a professional manner commensurate with his/her position and project a good public image of the School District in dealing with the community and employee groups
• Assume other responsibilities as determined by their supervising administrator

Grant funded program services supplement and support but do not supplant or replace the general education program of the school district

SUMMARY

The Student Success Coordinator serves as a mentor, advocate, and case manager for students enrolled in the alternative education program. The coordinator works collaboratively with students, families, teachers, counselors, administrators, and community agencies to remove barriers to learning, improve attendance and engagement, support credit attainment, and increase graduation rates. Through individualized support, progress monitoring, and intervention coordination, the Student Success Coordinator helps students develop the academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and career readiness skills necessary for success in school and beyond.
