ROLE DESCRIPTION
Port City Java is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical FP&A & Accounting Analyst to join our finance team. This entry-level role is ideal for candidates looking to build a strong foundation in both financial planning & analysis and core accounting within a growing corporate and franchise organization.
You will support budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and accounting processes while gaining exposure to franchise operations, unit-level economics, and corporate finance. You will gain hands-on experience across both FP&A and accounting functions, exposure to franchise operations and multi-unit financial performance, visibility into leadership decision-making, and a well-rounded foundation for career growth in finance or accounting
This role reports directly to the VP of Finance and Administration and will be based at our Corporate Home Office in Wilmington, NC.
This is not a remote position.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
FP&A Responsibilities
• Assist in annual budgeting, quarterly forecasting, and long-range financial planning
• Analyze franchise and corporate store performance (sales, labor, food costs, margins)
• Prepare monthly variance analysis vs. budget and prior periods
• Track key KPIs such as same-store sales, average unit volume (AUV), and store-level profitability
• Build and maintain financial models for new store openings, royalties, and franchise fees
• Partner with operations, marketing, and franchise development teams
Accounting Responsibilities
• Assist with the monthly close process, including journal entries and account reconciliations
• Support preparation of financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow)
• Maintain general ledger accuracy and ensure proper expense classification
• Help track and reconcile franchise royalties and fee revenue
• Assist with accounts payable/receivable processes as needed
• Support audit requests and documentation
• Ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting policies
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 0-2 years of experience (internships in accounting, FP&A, or finance preferred)
• Strong understanding of accounting principles (GAAP basics)
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, lookups, basic modeling)
• Understanding of financial statements and how they connect
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Strong data entry skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Internship or coursework in both accounting and financial analysis
• Interest in restaurant, retail, or franchise business models
• Familiarity with unit-level economics (labor %, COGS, margins)
• Experience with accounting or ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, QuickBooks)
• Exposure to BI tools (Power BI, Tableau) or SQL
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
