Position Overview

Franklin Elementary is seeking a collaborative, innovative educator to serve as an Inclusion and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Specialist. This position will support staff and students in recognizing and responding to learner variability by strengthening inclusive instructional practices and increasing accessibility within general education classrooms.

The Inclusion & UDL Coach will partner with teachers to identify barriers to learning, develop concrete instructional supports, and proactively design multiple access points to curriculum and instruction. Grounded in Universal Design for Learning (UDL), neural education, and inclusive practices, this role will focus on building staff capacity to meet diverse student needs while maintaining high expectations for all learners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with general education and special education teachers to identify barriers to learning and develop accessible instructional approaches.
  • Support teachers in applying UDL principles to curriculum planning, instructional delivery, and classroom environments.
  • Develop practical, concrete resources, tools, and instructional supports that address learner variability and increase student engagement and access.
  • Partner with teachers to design and implement individualized plans that provide multiple pathways for students to access instruction and demonstrate learning.
  • Serve as an accessibility liaison for students with IEPs, helping teachers understand identified needs and translate accommodations and supports into meaningful classroom practices.
  • Provide coaching, modeling, and collaborative problem-solving to strengthen inclusive Tier 1 instruction.
  • Provide targeted small-group student instruction or support as needed to address identified academic, behavioral, or social-emotional needs.
  • Collaborate with special education staff, classroom teachers, and MTSS teams to align supports and monitor student progress.
  • Use student data, observations, and feedback to evaluate the effectiveness of instructional supports and make adjustments.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Washington State teaching certificate
  • Experience supporting students with diverse learning needs in inclusive educational settings.
  • Knowledge of IEP implementation, accommodations, specially designed instruction, and accessibility practices.
  • Understanding of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), differentiated instruction, and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS).
  • Strong collaboration, communication, coaching, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience coaching or collaborating with educators to improve instructional practices.
  • Special Education endorsement preferred
  • Familiarity with neural education, learner variability, and proactive instructional design.
  • Experience developing accessible instructional materials and individualized student supports.

Ideal Candidate

We are looking for an educator who believes that learner variability is the norm, not the exception, and who is passionate about creating classrooms where all students can meaningfully participate and succeed. The ideal candidate is a creative problem-solver, skilled collaborator, and reflective practitioner who can translate inclusive educational principles into practical, sustainable classroom supports.
