DESCRIPTION
Port Angeles High School is seeking a Head Girls Basketball Coach, beginning in preparation
for the 2026–27 winter season. The Head Coach will oversee all aspects of the girls basketball
program, including varsity and sub-varsity levels, and will be responsible for program
leadership, athlete development, staff supervision, and program operations.
The successful candidate will build and sustain a positive, inclusive team culture that emphasizes
sportsmanship, discipline, effort, and academic success. Responsibilities include organizing
practices and competitions, supervising athletes, coordinating coaching staff, managing program
logistics, and supporting offseason development.
The Head Coach will ensure compliance with all Washington Interscholastic Activities
Association (WIAA) regulations, league rules, and district athletic policies while promoting a
program that reflects the values of Port Angeles High School athletics.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous high school or collegiate basketball coaching experience
Ability to lead and organize a multi-level basketball program
Experience developing and implementing offensive and defensive systems
Experience supervising and mentoring assistant coaches
Strong leadership and team-building skills
Ability to teach fundamental basketball skills and game strategy
Knowledge of player development, conditioning, and injury prevention
Strong communication and organizational skills
Ability to build positive relationships with student-athletes, families, staff, and
community members
Commitment to promoting academic success, sportsmanship, and character development
Ability to supervise students and maintain a safe environment
Knowledge of or willingness to learn WIAA rules and eligibility requirements
Must meet or be willing to obtain all WIAA coaching certification requirements
Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification, or ability to obtain prior to the season
Must be willing to complete all district-required safety training
Ability to organize and support offseason and summer basketball opportunities consistent
with WIAA guidelines
Ability to maintain student confidentiality and follow district and school policies
Must be at least 21 years of age
Wages: Coach $6,558 - $9,369 per season - DOE
Benefits - Medical, Retirement, Basic Life/AD&D, Basic Long-Term Disability, FSA & HSA.
Any employee anticipated to work at least 630 hours in the school year is eligible for benefits.
