DEVELOPMENTAL KINDERGARTEN / FIRST GRADE TEACHER
HAMILTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
DESCRIPTION:
Provide instruction to Developmental Kindergarten and First Grade students who require
additional developmental, academic, and social-emotional supports to successfully access the
kindergarten and first-grade curriculum. The Developmental K/1 Teacher delivers
developmentally appropriate, evidence-based instruction aligned with district-adopted
curriculum, approved research-based intervention curricula, and Individual Education Plans
(IEPs) when applicable.
This position requires intentional instruction in early literacy, numeracy, communication,
self-regulation, social skills, and learning behaviors through structured routines, small-group
instruction, and guided play. The teacher supports inclusive practices, collaborates closely with
general education and special education staff, and contributes to a Multi-Tiered System of
Supports (MTSS) framework to ensure students are educated in the least restrictive
environment to the greatest extent possible. Experience with early learners who present with
developmental delays, autism, and/or behaviors that may impede learning at times is
preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS
Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate required; Special Education endorsement
required.
Early childhood or primary grade teaching experience preferred, including work with
kindergarten and/or first-grade students who require additional developmental
supports
Experience providing developmentally appropriate instruction aligned to early learning
best practices, including structured routines, small-group instruction, and play-based
learning
Experience implementing IEPs, Section 504 plans, and/or MTSS supports preferred
Knowledge of special education laws, IEP development, and inclusive practices to ensure
students receive instruction in the least restrictive environment
Experience using IEP Online or equivalent special education data systems preferred
Ability to collect meaningful academic, behavioral, and developmental data to inform
instruction and monitor student progress
Ability to develop and maintain strong, productive relationships with other employees,
families, and students where all individuals are treated with dignity and respect
Ability to collaborate effectively with general education teachers, special education
staff, paraeducators, and related service providers
Experience supporting positive behavior through proactive, developmentally
appropriate strategies preferred
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage instructional resources and staff
effectively, including paraeducators when assigned
Maintain appropriate levels of confidentiality in all matters pertaining to students,
families, staff, and program
Ability to respond appropriately to stressful situations and support young learners with
varying needs
Attendance and punctuality are essential functions of the position
All positions are on site and in person
Wages – Teacher $57,008.00 to $112,441 DOE
Benefits - Medical, Retirement, Basic Life/AD&D, Basic Long-Term Disability, FSA & HSA. Any
employee anticipated to work at least 630 hours in the school year is eligible for benefits.
