Title:CustodianQualifications:A custodian shall possess a demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities and other such alternatives as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.Reports to:Director of Field Operations (FOD) or DesigneeJob Goal:To provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place in which to learn, play, and develop.

Essential

Functions:

  • Conducts an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep, and repair.
  • Complies with laws, district policies, and team procedures pertaining to use of chemicals (including but not limited to cleaning supplies and stripping/waxing components) and pertaining to the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish and waste.
  • Keeps an inventory of supplies, equipment, and fuel on hand, and requisitions such needed replacements from the FOD far enough in advance so that they may be delivered in such time as will not hinder the custodian in his duties.
  • Keeps building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas neat and clean at all times.
  • Sweeps classrooms daily.
  • Cleans corridors for the beginning of the school day and during the day when their condition requires it.
  • Scrubs, hoses down, and disinfects toilet floors and cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily.
  • Keeps the grounds free from litter.
  • Works as directed by FOD with the Building and Grounds Worker to perform yard keeping chores as grass cutting, tree trimming, and the like, as necessary, to maintain the school grounds in a safe and attractive condition.
  • Reports major repairs needed promptly to the FOD.
  • Reports immediately to the FOD and building principal any damage to school property.
  • Remains on the school premises during school hours and during non-school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and his attendance required by the FOD.
  • Assumes responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each school day and for determining, before leaving, that all doors and windows are secured, and all lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned off.
  • Be prompt arriving at work and to any appointments / assignments.
  • Be available for team communications by email/text/voice or any other means as directed by the FOD or Designee..
  • Agree to, understand, and operate under the Field Operations Team's operating procedures.

Additional

Responsibilities:

  • Washes all windows on both the inside and outside at least twice each year, and more frequently if necessary.
  • Conducts periodic inspections and tests of all electrical installations in the school to ensure their safe condition.
  • Participates in and completes the approved district Staff Development Program.
  • Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the FOD or Designee may from time to time assign.
  • Moves furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the FOD or Designee.
  • Maintains, on a regular schedule, all motors and other mechanical equipment requiring scheduled servicing.
  • Carry out any other field operations associated tasks when requested by the FOD or Designee during work hours.

Evaluation

Performance of the individual holding this job will be evaluated by this position's immediate supervisor .

Evaluations will be performed annually for means of determining the re-hiring/termination at this position.

Evaluations may be done several times throughout the year at the discretion of this position's immediate supervisor.

This position is based on a base twelve month agreement (actual total days worked will be reported on yearly worker agreement).

Compensation and work year to be established by the Superintendent and approved by the Board of Trustees on an annual basis. This position is "At Will."
