Job Summary
The Director of the Emergency Department provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for our ER, ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care. This role manages clinical practice, staffing, and education while fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration. You will drive quality improvement initiatives, ensure regulatory compliance, and support the professional development of your nursing team.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
- Operational Leadership: Provide strategic oversight of the ED to ensure delivery of high-quality care consistent with CMS and The Joint Commission standards.
- Care Coordination: Collaborate with medical staff and nursing leadership to improve throughput, decrease length of stay, and minimize "left-without-being-seen" rates.
- Performance Tracking: Monitor key metrics including door-to-provider times and patient satisfaction, implementing data-driven improvement strategies.
- Regulatory Readiness: Ensure departmental readiness for all accreditation and state agency inspections.
- Emergency Preparedness: Lead disaster response coordination and mass casualty planning.
- Incident Resolution: Respond promptly to critical incidents and patient care concerns to ensure effective outcomes.
- Staff Management: Direct scheduling, performance evaluations, mentorship, and professional development for ED staff.
- Financial Oversight: Manage the departmental budget, resource allocation, and cost-effective service delivery.
- Clinical Support: Act in a staff RN role when required, maintaining all clinical competencies.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field OR 7 years of direct experience in lieu of a degree.
- Master’s Degree preferred.
Experience:
- * 3–5 years of experience in the Emergency Department (with Bachelor's)
- 3–5 years of previous leadership/management experience preferred.
Skills:
- Proficiency with Google/Microsoft platforms, healthcare software, and data analysis.
Licenses & Certifications
- RN License: Active Registered Nurse license (Missouri or Compact State) (Required).
- BCLS: Basic Life Support (Required).
- ACLS: Advanced Cardiac Life Support (Required).
- CEN: Certified Emergency Room Nurse (Preferred).
- TNCC: Trauma Nursing Core Course (Preferred).
- ENPC: Emergency Nursing Pediatric Certification (Preferred).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong leadership, delegation, and time-management skills.
- Ability to manage cross-functional relationships with interdisciplinary teams.
