What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Operations position at Pop-Up Talent?
Director of Operations
San Jose, CA 95126
- Full-Time | In-Office
- $170K/yr base – $210K OTE
Our company has served San Jose for over 70 years — residential and commercial roofing across composition, tile, metal, TPO, BUR, gutters, and coatings. Strong field crews, a deep and loyal book of business, professional estimating support, and an owner who drives sales. What we need is an operator who runs everything else.
THE ROLE:
Full operational ownership from day one. You run production, enforce processes, hold the team accountable, and protect margins as we scale. The owner stays in sales. You own execution.
- Own scheduling, production, materials, and billing through the team
- Enforce SOPs and eliminate the recurring office and coordination errors that erode job-level margin
- Track gross margin and net margin on every job — act on every variance
- Coach and develop the Operations Manager into a General Manager within six months
- Build the KPI discipline that makes the business run without you in every detail
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE:
- 30 days: Workflow mapped, recent jobs reviewed, root causes of top operational failures identified, weekly production and KPI meetings running
- 90 days: Pre-job planning enforced, billing discipline consistent, team accountability clear, gross margin protected at higher volume
- 180 days: Operations Manager functioning as General Manager. Business runs through systems and people. You are ready for the next chapter
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
Not the most experienced operator in the market — the best operator ready to step up. The strong #2 who is hungry to own the whole thing.
- Managing scheduling, crews, and job flow in roofing, HVAC, plumbing, or home services
- Enforcing process and holding teams accountable — not just directing them
- Tracking job-level profitability and acting on variances
- Developing people — you can point to someone whose performance you changed
- Current title: Operations Manager, General Manager, Branch Manager, or Senior PM at a $3M–$15M company
THE PATH TO COO:
- This company is the foundation of a platform we are building. When you stabilize operations and develop the GM — targeted at six months, milestone-dependent — you transition to COO. You will hire and develop Client at new acquisitions, build centralized systems across companies, and participate in the financial upside of the platform you helped create
This role is for operators who want to own something. If you are ready to run a business — not support one — we want to talk.
We are an equal opportunity employer, and we are an organization that values diversity. We welcome applications from all qualified candidates, including minorities and persons with disabilities.
