TITLE: Motor Vehicle Mechanic - Transportation Dept.
QUALIFICATION:
- High School Diploma is required. Post Secondary training in motor vehicle repair is preferred.
- Must be able to communicate orally and in writing in English.
- Must have five years experience in vehicle repair, knowledge of school bus systems preferred.
- Prefer experience in motor vehicle repair and general knowledge of mechanics and electronics.
- Ability to obtain Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with necessary endorsements required.
REPORTS TO: Transportation Supervisor
JOB GOAL: To perform preventive, general and emergency repairs to all Transportation Department buses and vans.
ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Possess the knowledge and ability to perform preventive, general and emergency repairs to all Transportation Department owned vehicles. This includes but is not limited to buses, auto and vans.
- Responsible for keeping a clean, orderly and safe workplace.
- Responsible for ordering and maintaining an inventory of all necessary parts and supplies.
- Performs general and preventive maintenance on other equipment from time to time.
- May assign, supervise and train other mechanics as directed.
- Must be able to use all types of common hand and electrical tools including a variety of specialty tools used in vehicle repair.
- Observes safety regulations and procedures in the use of heavy duty shop machines, overhead hoists, extension ladders, vehicle lifts and chemical uses.
- Reads and deciphers instructional manuals, MSDS chemical sheets and able to report verbally and in writing to the Department Manager.
- Subject to assignments from the Department Manager, will perform snow and ice removal, overtime and on-call coverage as required and other duties as assigned.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Non-exempt position. Twelve month work year. Salary to be established by the Board.
