Instructional Assistant - PreK Classroom($30,033.82+)

TITLE: PreK Classroom Instructional Assistant

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Meets MSDE standards of Highly Qualified by possessing a Child Development Associate, an Associate's Degree, or documented experience of actively serving as a teaching assistant in a publicly funded prekindergarten classroom for a minimum of 5 years for at least 20 hours per week and 180 days per year that occurred prior to July 1, 2024, and was archived by a Maryland Public School. 
• Ability to communicate effectively and build positive working relationships with young children, families, and school personnel.
• Ability to actively engage with young children in classroom and outdoor settings, involving sitting, standing, bending, kneeling, lifting, and moving throughout the school day.
• Experience working with young children in an educational or childcare setting preferred.
• Knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practices preferred.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO: School Manager, Principal, or Assistant Principal

JOB GOAL: To assist the PreK teacher in providing a nurturing, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate learning environment that supports the academic, social-emotional, and physical development of young children through effective instruction, positive relationships, classroom support, and collaboration with the school community.

ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Assists the teacher in maintaining an organized, safe, and developmentally appropriate learning environment by assisting with classroom preparation, organizing and distributing instructional materials, maintaining learning spaces and displays, managing classroom resources, and completing organizational tasks that support effective classroom routines and instruction.
2. Assists in implementing developmentally appropriate learning activities aligned with state standards in whole class groups, small groups, and with individual students, as needed. Instruction may include implementation of specific enrichment and/or intervention programs.
3. Assists students with following classroom/school routines, transitions, and behavioral expectations in all settings throughout the day
4. Assist with student assessments and data collection under the direction of the teacher
5. Performs duties to meet the personal care and/or health and hygiene-related needs of students. This includes such things as toileting, diapering, toilet training, lifting/positioning, oral feeding, and catheterization.
6. Fosters positive relationships with students and maintains an inclusive environment that supports emotional well-being and a sense of belonging for all students. 
7. Work collaboratively with the classroom teacher, related service providers, and school staff to support student success.
8. Participate in professional learning, staff meetings, and training opportunities as required.
9. Performs other duties as assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Non-exempt position.  Ten month work year.

Salary to be established by the Board.

SALARY SCALE: CS7/02

Salary : $30,034 - $39,946
