Lead E-Commerce Developer

Pool Day
York, NY Full Time
POSTED ON 2/21/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 8/19/2026

Pool Day was born in the summer of 2023 with one goal: become the most trusted pool care brand with products that get owners back to what matters – having more perfect Pool Days with family and friends – and let them spend less time fighting their water.

The options available for pool owners were (and still are) overpriced, confusing, and time-consuming. Legacy pool chemical brands look like they’re from the '70s, and their products, instructions, and customer service seem stuck in the past too. Brick-and-mortar pool stores lure customers in with free water tests only to upsell them on overpriced chemicals they don’t really need. Pool service options are expensive and unreliable – pool chemistry isn’t so difficult that you can’t do it yourself. The traditional pool care industry relies on making things seem insurmountably difficult.

Pool Day is changing all this. We are a direct-to-consumer eCommerce brand making pool care fun – or at least not suck. Our products are premium quality and intuitive, and we provide great customer service (e.g., QR codes redirect to video instructions, friendly return policy & satisfaction guarantees).

We are a venture-funded startup disrupting a massive market long overdue for change. Over 10 million Americans own pools and spend a small fortune on chemicals and / or services every year. The opportunity in front of us is huge, and we have already received tremendous feedback from customers on what we are doing. Thousands of customers have joined the Pool Day community in the past year, driving millions of dollars in revenue. We are clearly delivering products and experiences customers love. And we’re not stopping at pools – we’re diving into the spa and hot tub market too.

Our next phase of growth will focus on scaling the products customers love most – through new formulations, offers, and channels. We have proven product-market fit, and now we need to get the word out to as many pool owners as possible!

We are looking for a highly autonomous and experienced engineer, and a proficient problem solver who is comfortable working independently and effectively collaborating across functions. Candidates should be strong communicators with all types of stakeholders: from having precise and structured technical communication, to elevating problems and summarizing issues to engage with business leaders confidently.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Own our Shopify storefront development: Build, optimize, and maintain Pool Day’s e-commerce site using Shopify Hydrogen, React, TypeScript, and Liquid templating. You’ll set the technical direction and ensure our site is fast, stable, and scalable.
  • Launch new pages & features: Collaborate with our design and growth teams to ship landing pages, improve PDPs, and implement new features that delight customers. You turn ideas and mockups into pixel-perfect, mobile-first, responsive experiences that wow across devices.
  • Act as a technical thought leader: Surface opportunities to business stakeholders, clarifying technical constraints, and communicating trade-offs in a way that informs decision-making.
  • Lead & coordinate development efforts: Work with external agency developers as needed and eventually build out an internal dev team. You’ll review code, provide guidance, and make sure all development (in-house or outsourced) meets our quality standards.
  • Own analytics integration: Implement and support our website analytics and tracking - including Google Analytics 4, event tagging, and Google Tag Manager - so that the growth team has accurate data to inform decisions.
  • Drive experimentation (A/B testing): Set up and run A/B tests using tools like Intelligems.  You’ll help formulate hypotheses with the team, test them, and iterate based on results to boost conversion and user experience.
  • Optimize performance for SEO & CRO: Ensure our site is technically SEO-friendly and follows CRO best practices. You prioritize mobile performance, optimizing layout, speed, and interactivity for smaller screens. You’re constantly fine-tuning load times, responsiveness, and accessibility to keep our Google Lighthouse scores high.
  • Champion code quality & documentation: Take ownership of our codebase and architecture decisions. You’ll establish coding best practices, maintain thorough documentation, and ensure that every deployment is of high quality, maintainable, and bug-free.

Who You Are

  • You have 4 years of software engineering experience in e-commerce or a related web stack.
  • You have expertise in JavaScript/TypeScript, React, Remix framework, and CSS/SASS (or an equivalent CSS preprocessor).
  • You have mastered the Shopify ecosystem (experience with Shopify Hydrogen or similar headless frameworks, and familiarity with Shopify’s Liquid templating and GraphQL Storefront API).
  • You can work closely with designers to translate Figma mockups into live pages, with an eye for detail and fidelity.
  • You are comfortable with web analytics (GA4, GTM) and A/B testing methodologies. Bonus point if you’re an expert in them. You understand how to implement tracking and are curious about user behavior to inform improvements.
  • You have experience in optimizing sites for speed (Core Web Vitals), SEO best practices, and cross-browser/device compatibility.
  • You are a self-starter who can manage projects end-to-end, juggle multiple priorities, and lead others. Ideally, you have experience mentoring junior developers or coordinating work with agency partners. You communicate clearly with technical and non-technical folks alike.
