JOB SUMMARY: 

The Automation Mechanic at Polyvinyl Films Inc. is responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of automation systems and manufacturing machinery used in the production of blown plastic films. This includes rewinding machines, actuators, sensors, and other automated systems that drive the efficiency and productivity of production lines. This position will be hands-on with automated systems and electrical/mechanical troubleshooting, ensuring continuous production with minimal downtime.  

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on automated systems in the blown film extrusion process. 
  • Work with PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) to troubleshoot and modify programs for improved functionality, safety, and performance. Assist in programming and debugging automation systems. 
  • Support the integration of new automation equipment into existing production lines, ensuring seamless communication between new systems and legacy equipment. 
  • Develop and executive preventive maintenance schedule for automated equipment to reduce unplanned downtime and improve machine reliability.
  • Calibrate automated systems, including temperature controllers, film thickness gauges, and roll stands, to ensure product quality and production efficiency.
  • Adhere to all safety guidelines and practices, including lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) procedures, personal protective equipment (PPE), and safety audits, while working with electrical, mechanical, and automation systems. 
  • Analyze automation systems and manufacturing equipment and implement corrective actions for any malfunctions or inefficiencies. 
  • Work with production and maintenance teams to suggest system optimizations and improve machine performance. 
  • Provide on-the-floor support to production teams by ensuring all equipment runs smoothly, quickly addressing any issues that arise, and minimizing disruptions to production. 
  • Assist with the installation of new and existing machinery to improve efficiency, safety, and productivity. 
  • Manage and monitor inventory levels or critical spare parts and tools. 
  • Assist in identifying and ordering replacements parts to prevent production disruptions.  
  • Maintain a clean a safe and organized work environment to reduce risk and hazards.  
  • Assist with the installation of new machinery and upgrades to existing systems. 
  • Modify or reconfigure machinery when necessary to improve performance.  

 

ESSENTIALS JOB DUTIES: 

  • Ensure the optimal performance of all machinery, including troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing all systems and equipment on the production floor. 
  • Regularly check and modify programs to improve functionality, diagnose faults, and ensure proper communication between different devices and systems.
  • Proactively monitor the condition of equipment and systems through inspections, routine checks, and the sue of predictive maintenance tools to reduce the risk of breakdowns and downtime.
  • Calibrate equipment and automation systems such as thickness measurement sensors, ai rings, temperature controllers, and other production controls to ensure quality production stands are met. 
  • Quickly identify and resolve electrical, mechanical, and automation issues during production runs to prevent extended downtime. 
  • Participate in the installation of new equipment and automation technologies, and upgrade existing systems to ensure the highest efficiency and competitiveness in production.
  • Maintain detailed, accurate records of all repairs, maintenance activities, parts used, and system changes in compliance with company procedures. 

 

SKILLS & ABILITIES:  

  • Strong communication skills.  
  • Strong knowledge of PLCs, robotics, sensors, and other automation technologies. 
  • Strong mechanical skills, including the ability to troubleshoot and repair complex machinery.  
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, manuals, and schematics.
  • Proficiency in programming, troubleshooting, and repairing automation systems.
  • Familiarity with industrial automation communication protocols.  
  • Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.  
  • Experience with welding, machining, and fabrication is a plus.  
  • Knowledge of industrial automation and PLC Systems.  
  • Ability to work well under pressure and in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.  

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: 

  • High school diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s degree or technical certification in industrial automation, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field is preferred.  
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a mechanic in a manufacturing environment with automation mechanics, preferably with experience in plastic extrusion or blown films production.  

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  

  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs on your own.  
  • Bend, crouch and stand for extended periods of time.  
  • Exposure to dust, dirt and noise.  

 

Salary Range: $28.00 to $32.00 per hour

This range reflects the base salary that Polyvinyl Films Inc. reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this role, based on current market data. Actual compensation will depend on factors such as relevant experience, skills, education, and internal equity.
