Polytechnic School is seeking a motivated, experienced, and student-centered head coach to lead our varsity girls soccer program. The successful candidate will be responsible for directing all aspects of the program — from daily practice planning and game-day coaching to fostering a culture of academic excellence, sportsmanship, and competitive achievement. This individual will serve as a mentor and role model for our student-athletes both on and off the field.
 

 

Responsibilities 
Specific duties include but are not limited to the following:
●    Plan and conduct organized, safe, and purposeful practices for the varsity girls' soccer team
●    Develop individual player skills, team systems, and tactical game plans appropriate for the varsity level
●    Manage game-day operations, including lineup decisions, in-game adjustments, and post-game evaluations
●    Monitor student-athlete academic eligibility and support the school's commitment to scholar-athletes
●    Communicate regularly with the athletic director, parents/guardians, and school administration
●    Uphold all school, league, and CIF rules and regulations; maintain compliance at all times
●    Assist with player recruitment and program promotion in coordination with the athletics department
●    Engage robustly in fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion to promote a healthy learning environment;
●    Willingness to take on other duties as needed. 
 

Physical requirements and work environment
●    Work in an environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges and deadlines, as well as a diverse array of contacts;
●    Work outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold
●    Ability to lift up to 30 pounds;

Qualifications:

●    Previous coaching experience at the high school, club, or collegiate level; varsity experience preferred
●    Strong knowledge of soccer fundamentals, strategy, and player development
●    Valid CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain prior to the start of the season)
●    Ability to pass a background check as required by the school
●    Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
●    Demonstrated commitment to student-athlete well-being and a positive team culture
●    Demonstrated experience creating inclusive learning environments and opportunities 

Preferred Qualifications
●    US Soccer or NSCAA/United Soccer Coaches coaching license
●    Experience working in an independent or college-preparatory school environment
●    Familiarity with CIF Southern Section rules and regulations
