Polytechnic School in Pasadena is seeking an experienced, student-focused Aquatics Coach to join our athletics department. This position spans all three aquatic seasons and offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on a highly competitive program
Position Overview
This role will include:
- Serving as a Head Coach for either Boys’ or Girls’ Water Polo.
- Serving as an Assistant Coach for Swimming & Diving.
- This is a walk-on coaching position.
- There is potential for additional coaching opportunities with the Pasadena Aquatics Club, depending on interest and availability.
- Summer commitment across all aquatic programs is expected.
The successful candidate will contribute to the growth, development, and competitive success of our aquatics programs while prioritizing the well-being and holistic development of student-athletes.
Responsibilities
Specific duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Plan and lead practices and competitions for water polo and swimming.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and student-centered team culture.
- Support student-athletes’ athletic, academic, and personal growth.
- Collaborate with the Head of Aquatics and other members of the coaching staff.
- Communicate effectively with students, families, and athletic administrators.
- Uphold and model the mission and values of Polytechnic School.
- Engage robustly in fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion to promote a healthy learning environment.
- Willingness to take on other duties as needed.
- Prior coaching experience in water polo and/or swimming.
- Strong understanding of skill development, team dynamics, and athlete well-being.
- A student-first mindset with a passion for mentoring young athletes.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a larger aquatics program.
- Demonstrated experience creating inclusive learning environments and opportunities
Physical requirements and work environment
- Work in an environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges and deadlines, as well as a diverse array of contacts;
- Work at a desk and computer;
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds;
- Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled classroom environment;
- Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
