What are the responsibilities and job description for the Middle School Dean position at polyprep country day school?
Poly Prep seeks a dynamic educator to join the Middle School Deans' Office as Middle School Dean. The team includes three Middle School Deans; each Dean is responsible for the academic and social-emotional needs of approximately 90 students (grades 5-8). Middle School Deans are the primary contact for students and parents, helping advise them on course selection, co-curricular involvement, and all aspects of navigating life as a middle school student. Building authentic relationships is at the core of a Dean's work at Poly--with students and their families, faculty and staff. Deans speak publicly in venues both small and large, write letters of recommendation, and are expected to engage fully in the life of the school.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Serve as the main point of contact regarding the academic and social-emotional well-being of students.
Provide guidance and discipline in accordance with the school's Code of Conduct.
Meet regularly with the Head of Middle School, fellow Deans, Learning Specialists, School Counselors, and other relevant faculty and administration to monitor and develop a comprehensive understanding of student needs.
Manage class schedules and class placement, including distribution and course changes.
Organize and plan appropriate class-wide events, including trips, and other established community-building activities.
Attend and preside over grade level teacher team meetings aimed at providing necessary support to middle school students.
Maintain ongoing regular, personal contact with families to share student progress.
Additional Responsibilities
Attend occasional admissions events including open houses and Meet the Dean events.
Attend Middle School celebrations and student life events.
Stay abreast of best practices in the field and pursue professional development opportunities.
Speak in school venues both small and large, attend faculty meetings, and engage fully in the life of the school.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor’s degree.
Experience: 3-5 years experience working with students and families in a support role.
Specific Skills: Excellent spoken and written communication, sound and independent judgment, and ability to collaborate well and manage time efficiently.
Certifications: None
Requirement: All employees must be fully vaccinated and show proof of their full COVID-19 vaccination.
Salary Range: $100K - $113K
