Material Handlers are responsible for unloading/ loading raw materials with forklift, receiving incoming raw materials, staging material for preparation of shipment, placing inbound raw materials in designated areas, unloading hazardous and non-hazardous bulk raw materials by truck and railcar, and other non-routine duties as assigned. This is an entry-level position into our manufacturing facility, which generally leads to a 12-hour rotating shift in production.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Preparing daily packaged goods shipments; loading and unloading drums/totes of finished product on 53ft trailers
- Receiving, unloading, and approving raw materials for production use.
- Offloading of bulk solid and liquid raw materials from railcars, tank trucks and ISO containers to silos and storage tanks.
- Package daily sample orders to be shipped using DOT guidelines.
- Inventory, organization, and labeling of all packaged goods located in the Main Warehouse area.
- Spotting tank trucks for loading finished goods.
- Load scrap pallets for recycling
- Follow all safety procedures and standard operating procedures for various tasks.
- Keep all working areas clean, neat, and organized.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Material Handling: Receive and unload non-bulk raw materials (bags, super sacks, drums, totes, etc.) from truck trailers using propane-powered forklifts and transport them within warehouses; prepare daily packaged goods shipments and package sample orders; load finished goods onto truck trailers using propane-powered forklifts. Visually inspect and verify all outgoing packages and paperwork match. Visually inspect and verify incoming products comply with quality standards. May be required to lift/push/shift materials manually or using forklift. Conduct/Maintain Warehouse inventory, general housekeeping, organization of warehouse and 5S.
Spotting: Safely maneuver empty/full tanker trailers and box trailers (full drum trailer/waste drum trailer) around site. Staging empty tanker trailers for loading and weighing out of full tanker trailers with finished goods for all production areas of the plant. Visually inspect trailers prior to moving and report any issues to supervisor. Weekly inventory of all base storage trailers spotted drum trailers and containers on-site.
Bulk Offloading: Responsible for monitoring storage tank levels and unloading of incoming bulk solid and liquid raw materials from rail cars, tank trucks and ISO containers to storage tanks and silos. Outside in all weather conditions, very physical position. Ability to troubleshoot issues with unloading (pump related, hose plugs etc.)
Knowledge and Skills: Specialized knowledge and skills needed to perform the job.
Ability to collaborate and communicate with peers, manufacturing, and planning personnel. Good basic computer skills and math skills (weights, measures, and conversions). This position works with hazardous chemicals and must have knowledge and awareness of safe work practices, HAZMAT and DOT procedures. Must be able to adapt to temperature and environmental extremes, according to season. Physically able to bend, stoop, twist, turn, stand for extended periods of time, reach, climb stairs/ ladders, and lift up to 75 lbs. and medically clear to use a respirator.
Education: Education, licenses, certifications or degrees needed to perform the job.
High School diploma or GED required
Previous HAZMAT experience preferred.
DOT and forklift operator training /certifications preferred.
